  Conservatives blame the US for the reform movement among Iranian students and young people. A major problem with religious conservatives is that they will not accept the fact that the majority of young Iranians are not religious. To accept this would mean recognizing that the Islamic fundamentalists have no popular following.

Moderates, who control parliament, have brought the power struggle to a boil by introducing a law that would eliminate the veto power religious conservatives have had over parliament and the government. Since the conservatives have veto power on these laws, making proposals like this could lead to civil war to settle the matter of who shall rule the nation.
