The new Pakistani military government has postponed a planned crackdown on the multi-billion dollar illegal economy. This included consumer goods warehouses, illegal arms depots, heroin laboratories, and smuggling. The cancellation of the raids simply means that the generals cannot take on the country's gangsters without igniting a civil war. Many civilians had hoped that the military government could deal with the gangsters, something the previous civilian government was widely condemned for its failure to do.--Stephen V Cole
