The US Navy destroyer Paul F Foster visited the northern Chinese naval base of Jiaozhou. This was the first such visit since the April, 2001 incident between a Chinese warplane and a US Navy EP-3. This visit marks a resumption of close relations between the US and Chinese armed forces.
