The Chinese government continues to make loud and brash statements in the mass media warning Taiwan to not even discuss independence. The media activities include personal attacks on members of the new Taiwanese government. Meanwhile, it's business as usual with the thousands of Taiwanese owned businesses in China. Taiwan is the largest source of foreign capital in China, even though such investments are technically illegal.
