Alija Izetbegovic, former President of Bosnia and hero of Bosnian Muslim resistance during the siege of Sarajevo, died of a heart attack. Izetbegovic continued to run his government from sandbagged buildings during the three-and-a-half-year-long siege of Sarajevo, under constant threat from their artillery and sniper attacks. - Adam Geibel
