Half a dozen Taliban attacked a government patrol 150 kilometers southeast of the capital. One American soldier was wounded and an Afghan soldier killed. An American quick reaction team was called in and the attackers were pursued and killed. None of the enemy responded to calls for surrender.

Another religious leader, loyal to the current government,  has been murdered. This one in Central Afghanistan. The Taliban are thought responsible, as they consider themselves on a mission from God and see any dissenting religious leaders are particularly dangerous to their cause.
