Subject: Human Civilization and Evolution of Warfare

Ever since the beginning of time. Wars have usually determined the strength and fate of nations. However, after all these thousands and thousands of years yet we still cannot see that there are better and more civilised ways of determining who is KING. Currently, the US are the Kings, coz they have more artilleries of war, hence, currently, it's a weapon thing. It's like a juvenile 'private parts' measuring competition....:) Anyways, I'm sure we can find other ways to determine who should be King, without having to destroy thousands and thousands of people. How about having war games - where each nation (that wish to participate) can bring out about 15 or 20 soldiers for a battle to the death. At least we will see the best warriors in action, and the death toll will not be in the thousands or millions. Maybe even, if two nations wish to go to war, maybe they could both choose a sport for their national teams to compete in (e.g. boxing, soccer, basketball) rather than killing.....to choose the victor. Just some food for thought.

Booooooooooooooring. Any conflict that does not end with one side surrendering under the threat of total annihilation is a conflict that does not end. Right makes might.

That's right. THe problems which the rest of the world are having with the French is a definitive case in point.

The problem with that is that everybody has to be civilized and gentlemanly before that happens. It only takes one person to destroy local peace, it only takes one ruler to destroy international peace.

Nations go to war when the problems are considered to be of absolute importance. "We will not die" is such a position. When they have uncompromisable positions. If you hold your uncompromisable positions so cheaply that you would risk them on a tennis match, while I hold mine to the point where I would kill or die for them, well, those must be pretty pathetic positions you have. And how would you propose binding a nation to the results of such a non-military contest? "Well, if they cheated at the poker game, we could punish them." And if they refused punishment? "We would have a quick round of mini golf to determine of they had to accept the punishment they refused." And if they turned down the mini golf? "We'd have a volleyball game to determine whether or not they should be forced to play mini golf." You see where it goes? It must stop with the use or threat of force, or it never stops.

This was all very well, exept when the King of France came over the mountains he came with lots of cannon(which can't collect ransom of course) and fierce Swiss Pikes who had a different concept of warfare. Guess what happend.
