Subject: It will not end with the war on terror
FJV    5/28/2004 4:47:14 PM
The war on terror/Islamic fundamentalism may be bigger than I thought.

Islamic fundamentalism really looks similar to the 2 prior utopian totallitarian ideologies (Communism and Fascism). Now this site: link tells how Islamic fundamentalism has grown out of Fascism/Communism. This makes me worry because:
- It seems that totalitarian ideologies have 9 lives. Every time such an ideology is discredited/defeated it comes back in a slightly mutated form.
- Combined with the advances in technology each time a new mutation of such an ideology surfaces the stakes are raised with the resulting situation even potentially more destructive.
- Once these ideologies are defeated in the most affected areas of the world a mutated version starts in another part of the world not previously associated with the prior Ideology. For instance:
- Fascism that is defeated in Europe resurfaces in the mutated form of Islamic Fundamentalism in the Middle East which was not mainly associated with fascism
- Communism that is defeated in Russia/China resurfaces in the mutated form of Extreme environmentalism in the Western Europ which was not mainly associated with Communism.

If we cannot go to the root destruction of totalitarion ideologies we will end up fighting the same enemy again and again each time in a mutated form and in a different place.

This could go like:
We defeat Fascism and Communism in Europe.
A mutated ideology rooted in Fascism and influenced by Soviet propaganda surfaces in the Middle East as Islamic fundamentalism.
We defeat Islamic fundamentalism.
A mutated ideology rooted in Communism and influenced by Islamic fundamentalist propaganda surfaces in Africa as ideology X.
We defeat Ideology X.
A mutated ideology rooted in Fascism (lots of nazis fled to South America) and influenced by Ideology x propaganda surfaces in South America as ideology Y.
We defeat Ideology Y.
A mutated ideology rooted in Ideology X and influenced by radical environmentalist propaganda surfaces in Europe/America as ideology Z.
We defeat ideology Z.

Etc. Etc.

Better to break this cycle.

"Better to break this cycle." Probably unlikely. Fukiyama was incorrect, history will not end. At least, not until man does. Human nature is the reason for the process. And that hasn't changed since the first human walked the Earth.

I have previosly tried to explain how Fasism influenced Arab Nationalist movements and how Comminism influenced Fundementalit groups. But there is still a large gap between Nationalist groups (Baathist party) and Fundementalist groups. In fact they are rivals.

Life goes on. The wicked and the violent, in whatever form they take are like coyotes. If we keep one from stealing your chickens tonight, another will come soon. If we kill him before he kills the lamb theirs plenty where he came from. But in the meantime we still get the eggs to eat and the wool to wear. In the end, I believe the "coyotes" will fail and the sheep, sheep dogs, and shepherd will be at peace. Until that happens we have to live in a world full of coyotes.
