Subject: How big do Ctol Carriers Need to be?

Can anyone tell me what is the minimum size for a conventional take off and landing carrier? Regards, Massive

In your 1/25/04 thread, you mentioned an air group of 10 F18, 12 Harrier, 2EC, 3 Helos- could this air group operate say off HMS bulwark, Albion, Centaur w/ appropriate catapult in a straight deck config or would angled deck be required ( I realize all 3 were scrapped a long time ago ).

With a C13 catapult (75 m) necessary for E2C and F18 at 20 t load, on such carrier you will have catapult being for a part on landing deck whatever the angle of deck.So not possible to launch and recover aircraft in the same time.Normally right part of the ship is used for parking incoming plane.On such a ship you need a stabilisation system if you want to use CTOL aircraft most of the time.You need only recovering deck 210/220 m long and 30 m wide.Angle or not.But possible angle depends on ship stability.
