Subject: Civilian contractor security on military bases
Nanheyangrouchuan    11/7/2009 11:38:17 AM
On the thread about the shooting, a comment was made about why soldiers can't carry guns on base and why so many civilian contractor police.

That is a good point to bring up. Aren't there enough MPs or MP recruits? What about reservist MPs?
Why not a low branch of the FBI or the marshals? Especially as many of them have LEO backgrounds?

Civilian city cops report to the mayor. State cops report to the governor. MPs are ultimately under the command of the President.

But civy contractor cops are under the command of....CEOs. And they are the only ones who can carry weapons on military bases?

So it is the private sector having the run of the show on military bases. Once again we see the dark hand of corporate influence on US civilian and military affairs. This must stop. Kick the ass of a military contractor today.

was one of those "corporate cops". She, as a police officer, got there first first, and did her duty.

What does that "corporate" mean again?

Those civilian contractor officer are under the command of the base commander.

There aren't enough MP's because all services went to open bases as part of the peace dividend, with the exception of secured areas on posts.

The quickest way to pay for the peace dividend was to open bases, cut MP's and immediately reduce troop strength without affecting combat power. Now, however, we need MP's in theater, and we don't have 'em, so another political expedient comes in, taking gun bunnies and training them to be MP's in 30 days and shipping them over.

Eventually politicians will learn that it is stupid to balance the budget n the back of the soldier, but not in my lifetime.

I'm thinking this is the dark hand of far-left welfare shills on US civilian and military affairs. Contractors are cheaper because individuals can be dismissed at will, if they don't perform up to spec. Soldiers are kept on unless they do something borderline criminal.

This has been a feature of military installations for a long time (thirty-plus years that I am aware of).  I work with a retired DoD agent. The DoD contracts with civilian security services to provide security for military bases, armories, etc. They are regularly inspected by federal agents operating out of the Department of Defense. They can, and have, lost contracts if they do not satisfy the agents' expectations. The private security officers are generally, but not exclusively, veterans of the armed services.

With 2 wars going on, MP's are needed to in the war zones. They are on the front lines in the war, and they are in training rotations to prepare them for deployment when they are back on base.

Arming recruits for this kind of duty is an absurd notion.

Kimberly Munley is a seasoned veteran, she responded quickly and she ended a murderous rampage while receiving crippling wounds herself. Thank God she was there.
