What are the odds of that?

I mean, damn, why couldn?t be one of those Catholic Nuns, Southern Baptist Preachers, or Buddhist monks who have recently gone on a kill-crazy rampage against US soldiers, killing recruiters, lobbing live grenades into the tents of sleeping soldiers, etc been the one!?

This is sure to tarnish the great name of the religion of peace!

Quick update:

1) The shooting was at Ft. Hood, not Ft. Bragg.
2) There seem to be three shooters--one was killed, the other two are in custody.
3) At least one had an Islamic name, but was a convert--not sure about the Arabic descent thing.  The latest rumor (i.e. take with a shaker of salt) is that he was upset about being deployed to Iraq.  Again, unconfirmed on that one.

Pretty sad day no matter what.

PPR    Update   11/5/2009 7:01:22 PM
According to Rep John Carter (R-TX) the two held in custody have been released and authorities are looking for another soldier. Other sources report the dead shooter was Maj Malik Nadal Hassan (an Army Psychaitrist recently reassigned from DC). He was due to deploy.

I wonder if it's a case of Sudden Jihad Syndrome?

Seriously weird. A 39 year old major who was a shrink and a graduate of the US Military Medical University??? Free medical school, which is over 60K a year, was given to a clown with terrible fitness reports? I was drafted at 28 as a LCDR and he is still an O4 when they promoted MDs if they are merely alive and breathing.  Converted to Islam, superior officers said he was deficient and yet he was kept in the service. How desperate is the military for Docs these days. Please, please , please don't profile Muslims, you may catch a crazy.

The vile POS is still alive and in custody, and the first law enforcement officer to arrive shot him several times, was herself wounded by Maj Hasan, and is also alive and in stable condition.

Did Nidal Malik Hasan Telegrap...

Posted by Steve Huff..., Nov 5, 2009
Nidal Malik Hasan

Nidal Malik Hasan

UPDATE, 8:20 p.m.: Sources tell the Associated Press... that Nidal Malik Hasan came ?to their attention at least six months ago because of Internet postings that discussed suicide bombings and other threats.? So? read on.

Original post made at 7:37 p.m.

We should really, really keep in mind the possibility that Nidal Hasan may not be as uncommon a name as the average American might assume. Still, an interesting comment was made by a ?NidalHasan? on May 20, 2009 on a document published on the document hosting service, Scribd.com. The document was titled, ?Martyrdom in Islam vs. Suicide....? Regarding the content of the document, ?NidalHasan? wrote the following...:

There was a grenade thrown amongs a group of American soldiers. One of the soldiers, feeling that it was to late for everyone to flee jumped on the grave with the intention of saving his comrades. Indeed he saved them. He inentionally took his life (suicide) for a noble cause i.e. saving the lives of his soldier. To say that this soldier committed suicide is inappropriate. Its more appropriate to say he is a brave hero that sacrificed his life for a more noble cause. Scholars have paralled this to suicide bombers whose intention, by sacrificing their lives, is to help save Muslims by killing enemy soldiers. If one suicide bomber can kill 100 enemy soldiers because they were caught off guard that would be considered a strategic victory. Their intention is not to die because of some despair. The same can be said for the Kamikazees in Japan. They died (via crashing their planes into ships) to kill the enemies for the homeland. You can call them crazy i you want but their act was not one of suicide that is despised by Islam. So the scholars main point is that ?IT SEEMS AS THOUGH YOUR INTENTION IS THE MAIN ISSUE? and Allah (SWT) knows best.

Emphasis was added. Again, the name could have been a complete coincidence, but it?s hard to ignore at the moment, considering the psychological insight offered in the comment above and how the bolded portion raises a few hairs on the back of the neck when you consider that a Nidal Malik Hasan allegedly killed and injured a total of 43 people at Fort Hood today. If you are a different Nidal Hasan currently googling your name and freaking the ---- out and you were the guy who made this comment, let us know.

This is curious. The two people taken were armed when the base police showed up, were arrested, and are apparently innocent. This maniac is still alive undergoing surgery. The women police officer (not known if she was an MP) who shot him and stopped him is fighting for her life in surgery.

With fairness due, Zhang, the guy depicted in your photo is a deadringer for my image.  Yes, I really am that ugly.  I happen to be a nominal Christian of decidely non-Arabic non-Turkic non-Muslim lineage.  We should be necessarily careful with overgeneralizations regarding morphology.  Not trying to be PC here, just saying that appears to be me in the photo.  Spot on minus a few pounds; yet another bald lump of swarthy manmeat.  0.02

If you're of Mediterranean origin (especially southern Italian), it wouldn't be surprising if you have some Arab blood.
