Subject: Fox Is THE Radio Free America
CJH    10/24/2009 10:52:59 AM
?Radio Free America? by Cal Th... Quote - During the Cold War, the Voice of America and Radio Free Europe were among the broadcast entities that effectively penetrated the Iron Curtain to deliver truth to the "captive nations" that were being fed a steady dose of propaganda by their communist rulers. Those dictators did everything they could to "jam" the signals so that their people would only hear what their unelected overseers wanted them to hear. Contemporary versions of jamming and other forms of censorship occur today in Venezuela, Cuba and many other places where dictators believe public ignorance is essential to their unchallenged rule. While the Obama administration is the product of an election, its approach to Fox News Channel, conservative talk radio and possibly the Internet appears similar to dictators who desire control over the flow of information in order to enhance their power. - End Quote Political leaders, going back to our founding, have criticized the press. It never works, because after the politicians leave office, the press remains. If the administration is seeking approval for its policies, it should go on the only channel that will confront, examine and question those policies. If the policies are valid, they will stand; if not, they won't and they shouldn't. But perhaps, like those dictators, the administration would rather jam Fox's "signal" because they don't want the public to know the truth about what they are doing. Quote - - End Quote

I want to apologize for turning this thread into Blatant Nerdery.  Though I like it.

One of my gaming buddies is gay, quite openly so.  I don't have a problem with it.  I guess in Nan's world that means I'm not really a conservative.

Did I mention my gay friend voted McCain last election?  Geez.  Talk about straying off the reservation.

While I suspect that some of the people I game with from time to time are gay, I don't consider it any of my business so I don't ask. It doesn't make any difference to me in any case.

Now plenty of the people I game with are lefties, and they are plenty willing to make sure I know about that much to my annoyance.

AFAIC, just mention D&D and it's an automatic +1 charisma. Gay, you more often than not take a small hit it Dexterity, but you would still receive the CH boost. Most certainly.

If you like old-school D&D, and/or a fan of earlier computer programming, I promise you'll love ADOM (ancient domains of mystery). It's all in ASCII, so you have to imagine a real-world, 3dimensional asperand fighting a blue capital T...or you fighting a troll..
Crazy-ridiculous re-playability and depth. I've played for years with dozens of different configurations, never come close to trying one of multiple possible endings.
2 things you'd need to know. 1- Savescumming! (your character is erased when you die, just like real life in the forgotten realms.2-Andy Williams' Guidebook (online library of ADOM info).

If you like D&D, you'd probably this game. 100% free.

Me too, Buzzard.  My group pretty much is evenly divided between conservatives and liberals.  We pretty much try to leave politics at the door, and when we do get into arguments, we try and keep it from being vicious.

We did have a good collective laugh a few weeks ago when we did the old "assemble the party at the tavern" bit to start off a new adventure.  My character refused to go along until we got health care benefits, while our rogue insisted on calling stealing "redistribution of wealth".  There's no friction on the operating level.
