Subject: White House communications chief Anita Dunn's favorite philosopher is Mao Zedong
Zhang Fei    10/17/2009 9:34:24 AM
That would be the same Mao Zedong who had Chinese who merely disagreed with his views tortured to death or executed after show trials. link (Quote) Glenn Beck showed an absolutely damning video of Anita Dunn on his show yesterday. As everyone knows, she is the White House communications director who has declared war on Fox News. The video shows Dunn giving a speech in which she highlights the two most important political philosophers shaping her outlook on politics: Mao Zedong and Mother Teresa. The first ?political philosopher? Dunn is praising was a tyrannical dictator who imprisoned, tortured, and killed millions of his own people. In fact, it is estimated that the Chinese Communists ? led, inspired, and controlled by Mao ? have killed 65 million Chinese citizens since 1949 through the Great Leap Forward, the Cultural Revolution, and the Gulag system of slave-labor prisons (the ?Laogai? system) that Mao implemented. Imagine what would happen if a White House communications director cited Adolf Hitler as one of her favorite political philosophers. Not only would it be an above-the-fold, front-page story in every major newspaper in the country, but there would also be outraged howls in the editorial pages. Mao killed more people than Hitler ? they were two of the three worst mass murderers of the 20th century (the third being Joseph Stalin). However, the revelation of Dunn?s comments will probably be greeted by the mainstream media with a big collective yawn. (Unquote)

Apparently Dunn was only an interim appointment, but I think it's a safe bet that, with the Kill Fox News campaign going very badly for Obama and her comments on Mao, it became really interim really fast.

If you hadn't been able to accuse Mao of "show trials", you'd be accusing him of "secret trials."

Nobody in China says the guy was perfect. Some do note however that between the time the Brits forced China to legalize nationwide sales of opium up until 1949 when Mao took power, the national population had fallen by 40 million. By 1953, drug addiction was gone: the big dealers had fled to Taiwan with Chiang, those who stayed were shot, jailed or sent to rehab along with mainstream addicts. The population went from 450 million in 1949 to 1,300 million today. How many lives did that save and enable? Free education became a fact too. So did "barefoot doctors", essentially paramedics trained to treat the most common killer diseases and refer the rest. Nobody mentions the saved lives.

And then you drag out Hitler and Stalin, today's favorite patsies for smearing somebody you happen not to know much about.

Have a great day Zhang!

Oh, sure, Mao was a great thing for China.  Aside from 22 million people who starved to death during the Great Leap Forward, anyway. (Those are official Chinese government stats, by the by.  Western historians stop guessing at twice that number.)

You're right, though...it's not correct to compare Mao to Hitler.  Hitler only killed 12 or 14 million in the Holocaust.

Yeah, right. Mao's great achievement in eradicating opium abuse in China, which was after he took power. Before that happened, he ordered massive plantation of poppy flower and opium production in NW China and smuggled it all over China, which was the way he funded his army before and during WW2. He doesn't really care about opium abuse among Chinese, but rather as a measure to prevent other people from accumulating wealth and power through drug trade, like HE DID.

On the country,  Chinese Nationalists, or KMT,  have adopted gradual and nonviolent means to reduce drug abuse in China. One of the ideology by Sun Yet-San is to eradicate drug abuse. Calling them the big dealer is the biggest lies spread by commies.
