Subject: Still no Russian Cooperation despite US concession

www.nytimes.com/2009/10/14/world/europe/14diplo.html NYT: Russia Resists U.S. Position on Sanctions for Iran ?At the current stage, all forces should be thrown at supporting the negotiating process,? he said. ?Threats, sanctions, and threats of pressure in the current situation, we are convinced, would be counterproductive.? Lavrov, Russian Foreign minister. www.nytimes.com/reuters/2009/10/13/world/international-us-russia-clinton.html NYT: Clinton Fails to Win Russia Pledge on Iran Sanctions [quote] A senior U.S. official had said before the talks that Clinton wanted to know "what specific forms of pressure Russia would be prepared for to join us" if Iran did not keep promises to the international community not to pursue nuclear weapons. DarthAmerica    Pure denial of reality   10/23/2009 5:45:22 PM

We've been fighting the war in Afghanistan now for nine years.  Putin's either been President of Russia or running the show behind the scenes that entire period.  During Bush's administration, we rarely if ever heard anything from Russia about closing air links or the 'Stans closing our bases.  Now, as soon as Obama is in office, Putin keeps talking about freezing us out, Uzbekistan closes K2, and all of a sudden are supply lines are in danger.  Why is that?  Why's Russia all of a sudden willing to see if they can use Afghanistan as a bargaining chip to keep us from turning the screws on Iran?

It's interesting how some of you continue to be in denial about things I explained YEARS AGO:

That was well BEFORE Obama and the invasion took place WHILE GWB was president. Iranian-Russian nuclear cooperation STARTED DURING THE GWB Admin as well. The Russian denial of basing goes well back into the GWB admin as well. Again, you partisans need to understand that this stuff HAS ZERO TO DO WITH BUSH OR OBAMA and everything to do with the situation created as a result of lengthy wars yet to be concluded. With regard to FP the ONLY CHANGE bewteen Obama and Bush is the language. Across the board FP has not changed. Russia is acting on and taking advantage of the GWOT, not Obama who wasn't even a serious POTUS option until 2008.

That this is even debatable is amazing!

Why was the request for more troops in Afghanistan only 40,000 when there is a clear need for more? And you guys want to go pissing in Russia's backyard? OMFG...

Basically those supplies needed in Afghanistan are not gonna materialize out of thin air.

Like sentinal said, how come we did not have this problem during the Bush years. I know because Bush was not a appeaser like Obama, and was not scared of Russia. Russia didn't do anything when we attacked Serbia, just like we did not do anything when they attacked Georgia. Like I said before we are not Europe, and Russia has no power over us.

I have had this same conversation with you many times kid, so you can believe what you want. TR, Reagan, and Washington are on my side, while Chamberlain, Carter, and Obama are on yours.

You keep thinking that. Folks here know who's the subject matter expert and who's not. It's obvious, there are so many errors in your first paragraph I can't believe you wrote it. A simple comparison of what you wrote in the highlights to a timeline of major Russian geopolitical moves would make you look very misinformed at the least.

Who are you to say how many troops we need KID! You are one pathetic joke Gen. Darth.

We will do whatever is in our interest kid, and there is nothing Russia can do about. Short of attacking Russia, we can do as we please. Russia can go ahead and sell S-300's to Iran, that is going to have almost a 0% difference when we decide to take Iran out.

Is that your "expert opinion"...lol. Suffice to say you have no idea what you are talking about and you consistency prove it. I'm not going to waste time explaining things to someone who is obviously not familiar with the issue or humble enough to listen to people who are. Also, I'm not your "kid". Post like yours are why the quality of debate on this site are in the toilet. Keep it up and I'll be joining the other subject matter experts and professionals who are making a conscious choice to stop posting here.

The only thing you are the expert in is BS kid. So why don't you go pull your head out of Obamas a@# and read a little bit of History, then come back and have a conversation with adults little men.

I'm reporting this in the open for people to see what has become the standard of debate on SP. USAJOE's vulgar suggestion is both inappropriate and not necessary to express disagreement.

I've also sent this message to the site mods to ask them to ask you to behave. I hope you get the point Joe. No further discussion between you and I will be possible until you stop lowering the standards.

You are the one who is lowering the standard. You always come here with your I/Obama, am always right and if you disagree with me, or Obama then you are stupid and don't know what you are talking about. It is not only me, there are many other posters here that will agree with me. There is no way I can sit back and let you act like you know everything and the rest of us are dumb for disagreeing with you.

C'mon, I got over you singing Kiss Him Goodbye to President Bush.

If he knew what was going on, he'd be sitting down without precondition at foxnews and be treating the Russians like they're not a real partner in negotiation.

This thread is quickly degenerating into a flame war if it hasn't already... yay!

It is unfortunate that we havn't seen the  any concessions, but seeing as Poland hasn't been invaded yet, and Biden has managed to snag the endorsement of the new system, which still includes Poland, from at least one important Polish official, I don't see any lasting effects to this... except for a new missile plan that may be more flexible, and less Russian whining on the Issue (so net gain?).
