Subject: Poland and Czech kicked in the nuts by the US

But Biden explained the logic of doing so, saying Iran -- a key concern for the United States -- was not a threat.

"I think we are fully capable and secure dealing with any present or future potential Iranian threat," Biden said in Baghdad, where he is on a brief trip.

...

"This is catastrophic for Poland," said the spokeswoman, who declined to be named in line with ministry policy.

Poland and the Czech Republic had based much of their future security policy on getting the missile defenses from the United States. The countries share deep concerns of a future military threat from the east -- namely, Russia -- and may look for other defense assurances from their NATO allies.

Officials describe the new system as "more dispersed and regionally focused".... what would that mean?

Dispersed = "Not deployed"
Regional = "just (the) US"

I don't remember kicking anyone. I'd say who I blame, but Jimmy "Desert One Attack Rabbit" Carter would say I'm racist if I did...

RockyMTNClimber    "Preemptive Capitulation"- John Bolton...   9/17/2009 1:01:02 PM
I can't imagine better news for Tehran and Moscow. We have surrendered two key allies (Czech Republic & Poland) and received exactly nothing in return from either the world's largest exporter of terror (Iran), or, a historic bully, intent upon rebuilding their long lost domain (Putin's Russia).
This will ultimately cause the western world to think very carefully about spending any political capital with the USA. Our will to resist terror and tyranny is apparently connected to the election cycle and no Treaty with US is apparently worth the paper it is written on. Another opportunity cost here will be American lives here and abroad and the lives of those in the western world who will be attacked or threatened by the new weapons Iran is building. Gates and Obama are fools who will be responsible for those of US who have to clean up this mess in the near future.

Jimmy Carter must be smiling too, now he's not the most imcompentent US President in US history.

Pissing off Russia should indeed not be on the agenda.

As for Europe being blackmailed I have 5 words.

Start a realistic energy policy.

Why should we give a damn what Putin thinks?  He's not our friend.  He's going to work at cross-purposes to us, no matter how much we kiss his ass.  He's trying to sabotage Ukraine's elections and strongarm Eastern Europe, just like his hero Stalin.  We're supposed to bend over for this guy?

When you show weakness to a thug, he's only going to try to take more and more advantage of it.  Sooner or later, he's going to want something that we can't give up.  What happens then?

As far as the energy policy of Europe goes--there I agree with you.

You shouldn't give a damn about what Putin thinks. The not getting involved in self defeating foreign entanglements is what you should give a damn about.

If you want the US to be tricked into standing up to Putin on behalf of the other thugs in the region go ahead. Just don't blame me when after spending soldier's lives all the US has to show for it is the next "Putin" they helped into power.

The US getting the punches and taking the hits, while you are safely positioning yourself to be the next number one thug. I don't see a reason for enthousiasm here.

I don't understand what you try to express. By "other thugs," you mean:

1.democratically elected leaders of Poland and Czech Republic?

2. pro-US (compare to some other old allies) Polish and Czech people?

What other thugs in the region would that be, FJV? The democratically-elected governments of Poland, Czech Republic, and Ukraine, or the Baltic Republics?

To quote our Fearless Leader, let me be perfectly clear: Putin's ambitions do not end in Georgia or Ukraine.  And to quote a smart man: we're rapidly proving that to be an enemy of the United States is bad, but to be a friend of the United States is lethal.

Top Israeli MP confirms Netanyahu trip to Russia

(AFP) ? 15 hours ago

MOSCOW — A top Israeli politician confirmed that the Jewish state's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu secretly visited Russia last week, in a newspaper interview published on Thursday.

Israeli lawmaker Zeev Elkin, head of the Likud party's parliamentary group in the Knesset, declined to explain the reasons for the visit but insisted secrecy was necessary.

"I can say that I was the last Israeli politician to see the premier before his departure for Moscow. On September 7 we met at his home and spoke for an hour and a half," Elkin told the Russian daily Kommersant.

This isn't about kicking Europe in the nuts. This is because we have reached the Sept deadline for Iran to make a decision on how to proceed with it's nuclear program. In order for the US deadline to be effective, the threat of real painful sanctions has to be there. Nothing meaningful will come from sanctions if Russia isn't on board. The Polish and Czech missile defense systems were critical issues to the Russians for the reasons I explained some months ago. Russia does not want U.S. garrisons or logistics hubs in Poland for obvious geographical reasons. So by doing this, the Russians must now decide if they will reciprocate the gesture and support any action against Iran and refrain from exporting any significant military hardware to Iran.

With regard to capability, the GBI system will be obsolete soon and the USA still has many options in this area that will be coming soon should we decide it's necessary to base missile defenses there. We take a minor hit with the Eastern European block but thats about all we are losing in the long run. Focus on the 23rd to get an idea of the Russian response.

Poland and the Chech Republic put themselves out on a limb for the U.S. President Obama sawed it off. Who, in God's name, would dare trust us again?  He's doing this to curry favor with a country that's working hand-in-glove with powers who openly boast that their goal is to defeat us and kill us all. Gee thanks, Mister President.

Just two of our best allies in Eastern Europe, Darth, who have sent and lost troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.  We just, as YelliChink said, kicked them in the nuts.  The Poles are so mad, they didn't even bother taking a "we're sorry we screwed you" call from Hillary this morning.  The Czechs are saying they'll never trust us again.  Why should they?  We've just shown loyalty only goes as far as the next election.

And what did we get in return? Diddly point zilch.  You honestly think Putin is going to give us anything in return? Russia's foreign office said today that they don't consider the missile defense shield anything special, so there's no quid pro quo.  In other words, your dear leader just sold two of our allies down the river, Chamberlain-style, for NOTHING.  Even Democrats are asking why he did it.

Hurry up and get a job with the administration, Darth.  At least then you'll be getting paid for parroting Obama's bullshit.  Great Mother Gaia, if Obama decided to nuke Israel, you'd be on here five seconds later talking about how it was such a presidential moment and how it all makes sense.
