I am not anti-gun. I am just pro life. There are some real lunatics out there. And then there are trains. Somehow i like to maximize my chance to live, while u seem suicidal- 28 Americans per day- think about it.

Why don't you do some data mining and tell us, among those unfortunate daily 28, how many have no gang affiliation and do not live in certain parts of inner city ghetto?

On the other hand, you always have an option to move to gun-ban countries. Yeah, why don't you move to and live in Shanghai?

Herc you're right on that one. Australia gun law is highly restrictive, while PRC gun law is very simple: no guns for civilians allowed, not even SMLE.

You want the punch line?

The recent push by libs and utter morons to ban guns has... resulted in a massive upsurge in the purchase of guns, ammo and new members for the NRA.  Thus, the pols are even more afraid of passing new gun laws.

Of course, we have instant check (and conceal and carry) here in Virginia.  Rational approach to a rational problem - keep guns out of the hands of criminals and give criminals a reason to think twice before robbing the little old lady at the ATM.  Grandma might be packing.

Finally, I agree with all the others here - Necro you are indeed a tosser.

Just to throw in my British two-cemts...

Once upon-a-time gun control was a good idea. Back when guns weren't everywhere and incredibly easy to obtain illeagally. Now, as I think Smitty said, any gun control laws inacted would do nothing except target law abiding gun owners and take away their ability to defend themselves against all the criminal gun owners (who would have guns regardless of the laws).

So tell me Herc, how is gun control a good idea?

This phrase I am about to use is so far past cliche you guys should hang me for using it, but it really does fit this situation.

If you outlawed guns, only outlaws would have guns.

They are so common place now and easy to attain that anything resembling a ban would simply give an advantage to criminals who already don't care about breaking the law, they are criminals, over law-abiding citizens.

As someone has already stated, a whole helluva lot more people die each day due to traffic accidents than gun violence, and no one is about to actually suggest we ban cars.  It is the exact same thing.  Actually cars are in themselves far more dangerous.  Whenever you climb into one you are strapping yourself into about 1 ton of metal that can move very fast and contains several gallons of extremely flammable liquid.

Besides, if some crazy person really and truly wanted to get a gun and go kill some people do you really think any law on the books is going to prevent them from getting a gun from somewhere?  The answer is no.

One point I always enjoy bringing up when people bandy about gun control utopias, is how easy it is to actually make a gun. I'm not talking zip guns here people. I mean real weapons. Keep in mind this isn't exactly cutting edge technology here. I remember asking the machinist from my engineering department in grad school how long it would take him to crank out a 1911- he said under a day easily. Probably a couple per day. Mind you a 1911 is comparatively a complicated gun to make. You want to crank something out fast, you work on duplicating M3 Grease Guns or Stens. Those could be made with minimal machining expertise quickly. That is the ultimate truth on this issue. You are not controlling something where the knowledge and expertise for manufacture is rare. It is not. The knowledge is commonplace and simple.
