Obama to Plumber: My Plan Will 'Spread the Wealth Around'

Barack Obama tells a plumber in Ohio he wants to "spread the wealth
around," eliciting criticism that his economic recovery plan is
socialist in nature.

Barack Obama told a tax-burdened plumber over the weekend that his
economic philosophy is to "spread the wealth around" -- a comment that
may only draw fire from riled-up John McCain supporters who have taken
to calling Obama a "socialist" at the Republican's rallies.

Obama made the remark, caught on camera, after fielding some tough
questions from the plumber Sunday in Ohio, where the Democratic
candidate canvassed neighborhoods and encouraged residents to vote early.

==> "Your new tax plan is going to tax me more, isn't it?"
==> the plumber asked, complaining that he was being taxed
==> "more and more for fulfilling the American dream."

==> "It's not that I want to punish your success. I just want
==> to make sure that everybody who is behind you, that they've
==> got a chance for success too," Obama responded. "My attitude
==> is that if the economy's good for folks from the bottom up,
==> it's gonna be good for everybody ... I think when you
==> spread the wealth around, it's good for everybody."

As opposed to McCains plans to socialize mortgages...

Or even the current Administrations socializing our banking system...

...The GOP no longer has any credibility when it calls someone socialist based on its own policies and proposed policies. They are all socialist! They aren't all upfront about it though.

As long as we can agree what it is that's wrong with this country....Yes, compare that to wealth distribution.

Keep in mind the "share the wealth" plan comes from the same guy who took a donation from a slumlord who - at the same time - shut off the heat to his low-income tenets during the winter - December through February - in Chicago.  The slumlord shared the wealth with Obama but put on a sob story to the city - saying he couldn't afford to pay to heat the apartments.  Obama managed to help that same guy scrape up $43 million to buy up slums - but won't take the heat for the fact that the slumlord left these buildings a mess and defaulted on the loans so you and I (the taxpayers) can pay for it.
You wanted issues - this is an issue worth facing.

Where did McCain take money from a slumlord much less one who shut off the heat and defaulted on government backed loans.  Even better...  how many donors for McCain are felons - the slumlord is - Tony Rezko.

Whats wrong IMHO is the lack of balance and oversight. Clearly there needs to be some degree of government involvement. Unregulated private business is one of the root causes of todays problems.  And clearly a nation can not have a permanent underclass of citizens trapped below a glass ceiling and left to fend for themselves. At the same time, the Government in a democratic capitalist society can't control everything either. And people have to take responsibility for and live with their own decisions. So what is needed is balance and leadership. Something we haven't had in a long time. And to be honest, something we wont get if we allow all the sitting parties to remain in place.

What we need in this country is a political revolution to shake up Washington as well as our state governments. We need to fire those who through their inability have led us to this point. That means registered republicans cannot simply vote the party line and expect anything to change. The same of the democrats who control congress. If you show these people that you aren't afraid to vote them out of office even if that means voting for the opposing party then you will force change. But if you keep doing the same thing at the polls and expect different results. Well then what does that say about your state of mind?

G Gordon Liddy is a felon Softwar...;) See, we can play this game back and forth time 1000 post if we want. Meanwhile the election is coming, America is at war and the economy needs attention. Why waste time on irrelevancies? McCain has run a pathetic campaign and there is a good chance he will pay for it in Nov. If he wants to make it a better than good chance then keep focusing on things like this NOBODY cares about except the far right who will vote McCain anyway.

If McCain's campaign is in anyway reflective of how a McCain Administration would be run then he really really isn't doing himself any favors. Seriously, less than three weeks. He had better bring something better to the table than this!

Not at all.

The "Deregulation" that is directly tied to this mess is in fact deregulation of an entity, and products of that entity,  that should never have existed in the first place- products of regulation.

Once you start adding complex rules to the game, smarter players will find hacks, cheats, and exploits you never thought of.  After that, when you compensate by tweaking the rules, you are neither regulating or deregulating, just changing.

Government should not have been regulating or deregulating- government should not have been running a game.  Fanny Mae/Freddy Mac should never have existed.  Cancel the game, and the hacks, cheats and exploits will vanish too.

Darth - Is G Gordon an advisor or fundraiser for McCain?  Has he been in the past?  No.

There is no comparison to Liddy and Rezko.

Liddy would not be so low as to turn off the heat to a bunch of poor people while contributing cash to a politician.

This is a clear issue - redistribution of wealth - from the poor to the rich.  Obama's buddies such as Friar Dodd - who got a VIP loan from the same company that turned belly up with subprime losses.  We are paying for that now.

Obama got payola from a convicted slumlord and it shows with the special land deal on Obama's million dollar mansion and taking cash in the dead of winter while his poor constituants froze to death inside an unheat apartment.

So where is the felon in McCain's past - you say G. Gordon Liddy - Did Liddy run McCain's Senate fundraising?  No. Rexko ran Obama's.

Did Liddy hold fundraisers at his home to jumpstart McCain's political career.  No.  Rezko did with Obama.

Did Liddy direct business to McCain that cost the taxpayers millions in unpaid loans?  No.  Rezko did with Obama.

Did McCain obtain low cost loans for Liddy?  Obama helped Rezko score $43 million of your tax dollars - upon which he defaulted.

Darth - as much as I like you - you need to come up with some solid argument .  At very least - you are not denying that Obama engaged in these horrible acts - at very most your defense is everyone does - which is not a defense but deflection.

Should not a business such as banks, insurance or brokers be allowed to dabble in eachother's business? Should Walmart produce, store and distribute everything they sell?
We tinkered with what could invest in, and then we called them too big and important to fail. . It's the belief that massive taxpayer investment will bring us back to where we were...or that that's evena good thing......It took me almost 20% to close in 96. I ate *literally* hamburger helper, rice and koolaid everyday for 3 years to get there, too...what of Asians and Indians who come here with nothing and excel beyond virtually all of our native socio-economic statures?
