My favorite quote from the DU m(b)asses... "CNN is unwatchable. The coverage couldnt have been any worse if they had just rented the Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders for a day to give Bush head." I suppose this means that even CNN's coverage of the Iraqi elections have made President Bush look good. Never mind it's not Bush's fault the majority of Iraqis don't agree with the insurgents that tried to stop this election.

More notes form the Underground: "And as John Nichols in The Nation and Robert Fisk write, this "election" is not going to have the results Bush and his warmongering cronies want it to have." We can only pray that's true. For the sake of peace, this sham can't be seen as a success Its a BAD day for the forces of Lefty evil when THIS happens. From National Review: Maybe a little too optimistic, (but there's something to this, from a reader in Germany: I think that, at least for some time, the election has turned the tide regarding the MSM. I'm watching CNNI right now, and I can hardly trust my ears. Anderson Cooper calls the terrorists "thugs", tells about their using a young man with Down syndrome for a suicide attack as a proof for their ruthlessness. Christiane Amanpour is full of praise for the Iraqi voters, Paula Zahn instinctively says "Terrific!" in reaction to the reports. I would not have thought all this to be possible, I expected "doom and gloom" reports all over. As far as I can follow the other US media, I really think this will at least temporarily have made a change for the better. It's even true for some media in Germany. "Spiegel Online" is now finally using the "T" word and asking Europe to do more to help. The Financial Times Germany reacts very positively. Only our friends from the left, "Frankfurter Rundschau" and "tageszeitung" can't join the Iraqis in their celebrations. It's all illegitimate, only meant to help the "occupiers" and their "puppets", civil war is imminent, there's no reason to be joyful. Roger L. Simon is so darn right: Those people on the left are indeed the "new reactionaries"... John Kerry and co. must be feeling especially lonely. swhitebull - how sad that they can only rejoice in suffering and 100s of thousands murdered by the Saddam regime - if POTUS looks good, it HAS to be bad.

That is the current nuanced identity crisis in the DNC - "Are we pro-terrorist, or just anti-Bush?"

Whether CNN looked good or bad, I heard Blitzer acting stupid. To paraphrase, he asked an Arab correspondent if there was a general feeling of "OK, now what?". To which the correspondent replied "No, the general feeling is that today is an historic event." No big deal wolfie, you don't have a complete grasp of the situation on the ground, you asked the wrong question, but we've got a guy on the ground in Baghdad (on election day) talking about an historic event. Take it and run with it. Right? Wrong. He follows it up with "when do you think we can begin to draw down our troop stregnth blahblah. Correspondent: "It has long been a blahblah of the iraqi and coalition blahblah to shift more of the security blahblah to the iraqi blahblah--CLICK

The DU reminds me of Longstreet's line in "Gettysburg": "We'd rather lose the war than admit the mistake." No wonder Longstreet became a Republican.

On Watch    the Democratic Underground aka the MSM   1/31/2005 1:36:54 AM
If the voter particpation totals come in at less than 50%... The 'Rats will attempt to play it as and invalid election. Then they'll hype-up the poor disenfranchised Sunnis angle as the raison d'etre for the "ongoing Civil War". Therefore Bush made a mistake again by not including enough minorities in the electoral process...wanna bet? Let's Roll

It will be some variation of the current "Bring the troops home so we can spit on them" Democrat meme.
