Tribalism (refer to South American native social and cultural traditions in this case.). You gotta love it.

In case the (north) Americans get the swelled head? What are the Crips and Bloods again?

Only criminal gangs, they don’t meet the sociological definition for tribalism.

Modern urban street gangs have evolved into tribal organizational structures. These new urban tribes have developed into a subculture in the streets of the urban jungle. They claim territory, are self-supporting, have their own language and customs, and establish their own rules and codes of conduct. Their customs are passed to new members by rites of passage from generation to generation, thus ensuring the continuance of the gang. Gang members identify themselves as a people that is separate from the rest of society. (Etter, 1999, p. 261)

Different schools, different definitions.

Anthropologists seem to me to have a more valid description of Human beings, since they do actual [Human] animal studies in the field and then formulate a theory to explain the critters. Sociologists? Not so much. They tend to publish theory and are continually surprised when anthropologists report back after observing the wild animals misbehave, that Human beings don't fit their neat 'sociological' notions.

Different schools, different definitions.

Venezuela meltdown, what a pity, when 30 years ago it was the absolute best in Latin America.
But leftist governments are like that. They produce poverty, because when people feel hard-done-by the vote Left, so Leftists know they can't afford to raise the standard of living because that just might lead to them losing some votes.
So, inflation rate now at 50%, what a great surprise, but hey it's not a record, there's a country further south that in '85 had inflation of 35% per month, till a people got sick of it and a different regime was elected.
In fact all of the countries south of Venezuela have had more than their share if leftist governments, and generally large shares of inflation concurrently, especially when power is held by either a dictatorship of corrupt and incompetent military fatheads or by a dictatorship of leftist-ideologue and therefore corrupt and incompetent but highly intelligent and devious fatheads.
And yes, Tribalism (as in distinct ethnic groups) plays more of a role than generally thought. Often ideological loyalties are also aligned along tribal lines, with heavily colonial policies practiced by the "anti-colonial" forces.
