Subject: RE:Hypothetical amphibious group

You need two LPDs, so you would have to procure two more Albion/Bulwark type vessels - the two ships are needed to support a proper amphibious landing.

My version:

1 x LPH (Ocean class replacement, preferably the Schelde LHD30000 design)
2 x LPD (Albion class, but with hangar)
4 x LSD (Bay class, but modified to have a full hangar, it is always handy)
2 x DDG (Type 45, I would rather have four, but two would be okay)
4 x FFG (Type 45-minus the long-range radar)
2 x AOR (new fort class, with decent helicopter facilities)
1 x SSN (Trafalgar class, replaced with Astute when they become available)

The two replenishment ships give you the ability to keep the fleet at sea for long periods, but also to carry more stores. It also prevents the 'accidental overstretch' where the fleet suddenly finds it does not have enough fuel support, and has to curtail an offensive, which is very embarrassing.

I think there is a need for UAVs to fly from the large deck amphib, which would help support the troops - ideally one big enough to carry some Brimstone and APKWS, which would be great, and free up the fast jets for more demanding jobs.
