France: 4 SSBN - 2 aircraft carrier - 6 SSN - 5 SAM horizon frigate - 8 ASW frigate - 14 multirole frigate with cruise missiles - 6 light frigate - 16 antimines vessels - 4 oilers - 2 support ships - 9 amphibious ships - 11 patrol vessels - 60 RAFALE at least - 3 to 4 HAWKEYE - 38 asw helos - 22 asw aircrafts - 10 antiship reco aircrafts

"France has more escorts due to adopting a high load mix and is therefore likely to have more hulls available at any one time." What??? In 2015 France will have 26 destroyers and frigates including four AAW and eight ASW. In 2015 the RN will have 8x destroyers and 17x frigates. Hardly a vast difference.

Interesting comments on the E2C. Everything I'd read had indicated that whilst still 'officially' a candidate the choice of VSTOL would effectively rule out the E2C as an option for the UK's carriers. I'd never read that it had successfully taken off from a ski jump. Were we to invest in that system then my view on relative carrier capabilities would change considerably. When I wrote to the MoD that acknowledged that any V22, helicopter of UAV stsyem would not ne as capable as the E2C but argues that we might not be able to afford or require a platform of the E2C's performance. As to escorts Tiff I was basing that on the 27 frigates and 6 light frigates in the original post making 33 vessels or 32% more hulls than the Royal Navy. Steve
