I just think you can compare and this is why. I have visited Toulon, our ship was berthed miles from the dockyard gate, we had to walk for ages to find the nearest bar. Now compare this to Devonport, straight off the ship out of the gate and 'The Keyham' pub is straight in front of you. Our matelots have the best facilities now and in the future no contest. Beer = better sailors.

China and India will have navies better than that. In 10 years or so. (of course some of it will be French equipment). Its probably better to compare that.

I'm not sure for India and China in ten years: do they have carriers with top fighters and top nukes subs? Will they have top ASW suits? And things can change.

I' m very concerned that we have only 6 SSN instead of 10 planned initially .And we should have received the second carrier these years.

As you seem to have taken your figures for the French navy from the 2015 proposals this is my interpretation of what the RN will look like in 2015. 2x CVF 2x LPH 2x LPD 8x T45 17 to 20x FSC/T23 19x minehunters 12x tankers (MARS?) 4x fleet replen ships 4x LSD(A)(Bay class) 6x point class Ro-Ro 1x joint casualty treatment ship 1x aviation support vessel (argus replacement) 1x forward repair ship (OMAR) plus various smalley patrol jobbies then of course: 4x SSBN 8 to 10 SSN

The clear advantages the RN has over France are obvious but it is worth pointing out the amphibious forces: 2X LPH (Ocean plus one other) 2x LPD (Albion and Bulwark) 4x LSD (A) Bay class 1x JCTS 1x Aviation support vessel This is all backed up by 6 point class Ro-Ro The RN amphib force us designed at putting a brigade of RM commandoes ashore with all their support, artillery and tanks. The French are capable of putting a regiment ashore. As the SDR directed the future of the RN lies in supporting forces ashore.

And I don't even think this even shows the real picture as the future is also 'joint forces.' Joint force harrier The RN's contribution to JFH is some 26 harrier FA2 (to be decommisiioned by 2006) By the end of this decade JFH will consist of some 70 GR9/9A/T12. When the JSF comes along the UK armed forces will have in the region of 150 F-35B all under joint command. Joint Helo command RN commands some 80 odd helos plus 8 AEW plus 44 commando assault helos. Add to this 103 army helicopters and 306 RAF helo. Which importantly includes 67 WAH-64D and 48 Chinooks both of which are capable of operating from amphibious landing forces and you have a very potent weapon.

I could add the 28 updated ATLG3 also for aircaft. On amphibious I think you miss the point. BAY class are improved cargo and not full amphibious ships.Their capacities can be replaced by Ro-RO or ferries suppemented by point air defense and peace time provision for supporting amphibious operation.A program was one in France in cooperation with some private and public operators. On pure dedicated amphibious ship we have in France 2 LPH (1 Mistral + 1 Jeanne d'arc) and 5 LSD (2 Ouragan +2 Foudre class and an old class one) in 2005 then 2 LPH and 2 LSD in 2015.Plus Batral LST.So comparable to UK if we use war commissioned cargo and ferries.RFA ships add more available ships in peace time with greater flexibility, but no more power than commissioned civilian ships of France in a real war. The goal was to inform on France capacities and not to restart an endless debate which has been done in the French vs British thread especially on amphibious and airdefense. PS: we have also support ships I did not mentioned.

"I'm not sure for India and China in ten years: do they have carriers with top fighters" Does France??? The substantial Rafale force is still a fantasy.
