The han class ship ss buctow comes across the waalaroo,xec asks whats up capt?capt says we got a wallaroo in our sights,exec says no its a ship not a roo.Capt says its the Wallaroo,exec says let me see ,Capt all i see is a roo,capt says ok its a roo.SINK IT!!!

Mate, where do I start? ;) Those names are either towns, cities, Indigenous Aboriginal names/places or little furry animals. We have also named ships - Vendetta, Vampire, Fantome, Stalwart, Tattoo, Hawk, Samarai, Archer, Attack, Barbette, Bayonet etc etc. Are these purposeful, manly enough for you?? Dechaineux is named after Captain Emile Frank Verlaine Dechaineux, DSC, RAN. He commanded a RAN Tribal class destroyer, HMAS Warramunga and then the flagship, HMAS Australia, where in the Leyte Gulf campaign the ship was attacked by kamikazis and he was killed on the bridge. A well respected bloke and a deserving name for a grat new submarine. Tally Ho!!!

Are you referring to canberra? if so it's the Federal Capital of Australia. The USN named one of her buided missile cruisers ships after her some years back. IIRC, CAG 2/CA-70, USS Canberra. Roosevelt also named a US Cruiser after HMAS Canberra after it was sunk protecting US ships at Savo Island. AFAIK this was the only US Naval vessel ever to be named in honour of a foreign warship. The others are named after foreign VIP's like Churchill, but never after foreign vessels. So the name is held in high regard.
