What is the WORST name given to a warship And the BEST? My choice is the WW2 Royal Navy - HMS Pink. Not very macho or enspiring is it? Do you think the crew forgoed the traditional Rum and Beef for Tea and scones? I think HMAS Vampire - A Daring class Destroyer had the right choice. Could we see this name return for any of the proposed AAW Destroyers for Oz?

Skimming through my handy 'Janes Warship Recognition' guide last night (as you do), I noticed the USS Klakring.(An OHP if I remember correctly) There's a joke there somewhere. ;) I think it's the Chileans who have an old RN County class destroyer renamed as the Prat. There's plenty more but I can't remember them off the top of my head.

Toowoomba is a rural town. A nice one at that! The others are Aboriginal place names. Grrrr!!!!

The lamest is John F. Kennedy: The president that spoke the words: "Ich bin ein Berliner." This translates into: "I am a doughnut!" I'm Dane not a Danish. (Actually the secret about a proper piece of Danish Pastry is to use margarine and not butter)

Worst ship name: USS Jimmy Carter ... (sounds of expectorating in the background) Given the ships name it's mission will be to: 1) After learning of an act of war against the US to wait 444 days. 2) Then to be relieved on station. Best Name: The British have a lot of good names, but IMO the best name on this side of the pond is Sea Wolf ... Both boats out of the same class, kind of ironic no?

Constitution, Enterprise and Wasp lame? How so? FYI The Constitution was not a shp of the line but a 44 gun Frigate The US Navy has had many ships named Enterprise and Wasp since the Revolutionary War. The USS Constitution was form a class of (6) Frigates 3 of 44 guns (United States, Constitution and President) and 3 of 38 guns (Constellation, Congress and Chesapeake) These ships were considered Super Frigates becuase they tened to how perform their adversaries. link Admiral Nelson was supposed to have remarked, when some these frigates first showed up in the Mediterranean during the Barbary Wars, that they would be the source of future trouble for the Royal Navy

In Tom Clancy's "Red Storm Rising" there is an incident where HMS "Battleaxe" meets USS "Reuben James." "Battleaxe" signals to the American: "What the devil is a Reuben James?" The reply was, "At least we don't name ships after our mother-in-law."
