Subject: The China Syndrome & the British Navy
human7    7/10/2004 10:00:29 AM
If China launches an invasion of Taiwan, the United States would most certainly react. (This whole notion of ambiguity is American PR.) The question is would the United Kingdom would the stand idly by or would they help to repel the Chinks?

The one area where the RN could be VERY helpful in would be stopping Chinese commercial shipping. The RN could round up civilian ships and really hurt the PRC. Also they could help stop oil shipments to the PRC, this would cripple them quick.

If the Chinese decide to attack Taiwan, in my opinion they can expect to get their asses handed to them by the U.S. 7th Fleet. Period. Even with all the tech. theft and other BS with the Chicoms they are still outclassed ( Significantly ) If the U.K. joins the fight it would be a very big help ( and I expect they would ) But no need to worry, you have to remember that the Communists said this is a peaceful rise ;)

Watch the racial epithets.
Making racial epithets of a military enemy is a venial offense. Presumably they have their own epithets about our "Imperialist Running-dogs".

Uk would most  certainly contribute in some capacity... they would have to, as  the major American ally  and as the longest running ...promoter  of Free Will ... etc

My guess is that  although they wouldn't go full war ... a  Handy major commitment  such as

Astue SSN - Anti-shipping /patrol/blockade
Future carrier (f-35)
T45 - Air Defence
AuX ships
FSC (future frigate)
20000-32000 Troops
Heavy Armour
SAS - Special Ops
SBS - Special Ops ( i think these guys would be valued)
Intelligence (MI6/SRR)

Would Australia get involved

YES...

Probably a naval group tasked to an American fleet or mixed with UK and other commonwealth nations

1-2 F-100  AWD
3-4 Anzac II -
2-3 Collins 2
Minesweepers
P-8 Maritime patrol

F-35A
Airborne Refueling
Wedgetails airborne Surveillance

2000 Troops
ASLAV ( future variant)
SAS
Navy Clearance divers
Australian Ground based (*X-*#!X) RADAR NETWORK - Vital

 - I personally think Australian needs  to beef up its Navy Strike power  for such a .... possibility

 Whast other nations would join?

New Zealand ? - cant contribute much SAS maybe ??
Canada ?  ??
Indian ?? Massive troop amour numbers ( helpful)
Singapore ??
South Korea ?  - helpful
Japan - Vital
Russia ??  doubtful
Malaysia ??

Blue, unless you are British or Australian, I would reframe from making comments such as these:

Uk would most  certainly contribute in some capacity... they would have to, as  the major American ally  and as the longest running ...promoter  of Free Will ... etc

Would Australia get involved

YES...

Though, I am sure it is not your intention, you have no idea how insulting these comments are.

as a chinese american serving in the US Army, i'm used to racial epithets and hardly get my panties in a bunch, but yes i do consider these type of comments crass and offensive, esp when there is no cause.

There is never a place for racial name calling, but everyone also needs to develop a thicker skin and not get so irritated over PC faux paus.  Especially in the military, where whites get lots of comments.  And don't think for a minute that in China racial virulence towards big nose, hairy foreign devils and dark skinned people of all backgrounds doesn't exist.

Does that past include Vietnam?  Both your nations have elected officials.  Despite this fact, are you saying your country goes to war based on US Politician's declaration of war?

Well no...

but firstly  Australia was in Vietnam

UK - NO ... ok  ,  but  they  were in Iraq, Afghanistan, Korea, WWII(most like this scenario-global power supports, small free nation that is attacked by aggressor) , WWI  ,Cold War, Special ops , and numerous other regional conflicts

However, I think US confrontation with China , is a completely different scenario, potentially becoming a global conflict , my PERSONAL opinion is the any  elected government of UK or Aus would support the US .... as the  would risk , not having US support in a global war environment.  -  the US nuclear umbrella  for 1. 2.UK-USA agreement ( Sigint) 3. Technology transfer 4. NATO/ANZUS-(ex anzus) - the second US ships these Should!  come into effect..  4.You would be target anyway (pipe gab -AUS / Various bases in UK)

UK nuclear deterrent is  degrading and Australia has none, in  a global war environment ( major powers waring) places  like North Korea, Iran  etc  may take  advantage of this chaos and use WMDs etc ...countries that openly condemn them, that dont have their own deterrent would be ideal targets..... you can bet US wouldn't nuke people for you, if you didn't support them in a war again Communism ???

I don't represent any government or political body , this is my opinion , and I am entitle to it, until freedom is jeopardized by evil aggressors.
