Subject: FFG-8 twin?
YelliChink    2/23/2008 3:37:55 PM
This is a crazy idea that I believe some navy person on this planet have thought of, but it seems that this hasn't been discussed in open forum yet. The idea is that one FFG-8 hull is not enough, why not have two of them in one ship?

Take two FFG-8 hulls and redesign them into a catamaran, then put a newly designed superstructure on it. In this design, there will be:

4 hangers that can store 4 MH-60R.
2 empty space formerly used by MK.13.
2 Shafts and two sets of power systems plus two rudder and separate steering.

I don't know much about shipbuilding, so I don't know whether it is a possible thing to do or otherwise just a fantasy. Please feel free to flak this idea. Not sure about whether it is possible to put full-length Mk.41 on that, but there would be plenty room for SPY-1D and Aegis combat system. The displacement would be at about 7000-8000t.
