let's take a look, Hic. What are you talking about? You said; "China is very much silent on Nepal except the official rhetoric." So? China is very much silent on EVERYTHING other than official rhetoric. That's what you get with a government controlled Media. When it comes to Nepal, the WHOLE WORLD is Silent. "if Nepal becomes Sikkim, China will face more problems on Tibet." Nepal is not going to become Sikkim. China will not face more problems. China has a billion people, the most Nepal could ever be is an "annoyance", not a problem. "This is the Proof of CiA's involvement in bringing more and more Tibetan Refugees to Nepal." It is? In what kind of deranged lunatic mind? Powell's visit to Kathmandu is proof that Powell visited Kathmandu. Nothing more. You guys crack me up- there is a long, long road from fantastic claim to Proof. Is it the high altitude air in Nepal? Our CIA has other problems right now. Nepal is not on the list. Go knock on France's door.

Dear Ben I appreciate your analysis. However I do not believe that Nepal is a Nut case! Whatever happens in Nepal is going to directly impact in India with a Billion People, due to the Open Borders. And through India, the whole of south Asia will be feeling the impact. India in the first glance may look like a democracy, but Feudalism is deeply rooted in it. So Nepal can ignite India, in terms of revolt of poverty stricken masses. Nepal is very small, but it has the potential to become the Key for south Asian politics. That's why President Bush and Blair have shown interest to be involved in Nepal and have sent their military delegations to it, not to speak of the Indian Hegemonists. Between 2 great nations of Asia, and with full of water resources, the Tibet issue in north.... A favorite tourist destination... all these make Nepal something more than Nut Case!

I guess your reality counts. 1) China has not been silent. It has condemned maoist terror. 2) US is only providing lip service to Tibetan cause there has been no US interest in Tibet since ealry 1980's and 3) for someone advocating the cause of a party which while inflicting terror in Nepal has its entore leadership picnicking in India with RAW money the question "whose reality counts?" is indeed an appropriate one.

China and India are involved in a cold war against each other. Nepal straddles the border between these two countries, and thus is of strategic importance to this cold war. As for these "Maoist rebels", they are obviously Chinese proxies. Britain cut their ties to their Ghurkas for a good reason -like Hong Kong, defending this beleagered state likely would become a strategic nightmare. Thus, the Brits have taken to supporting the Indians. Quietly. Meanwhile the Nepalese pay the price, for the crimes of being too close to an expansionist and aggressive neo-fascist superstate, and of being too small to do much of anything about it. What we call in the business "Tibetian disease".

Hi Doctor: You must be a petty bourgeois philosopher. Your first arguement is incorrect, as Maoists are not Proxies for Chinese. Maoists are being killed in China itself these days. And China had not supported Maoists in nepal so far. May be they will change their mind after the overthrow of Monarchy. as far as Monarchy is there, they willnot support Maoist Revolt in Nepal. By supporting Maoists, china will cool down relationships, (MFN) status with it trading partners in the west. Your second point that Nepal is suffering due to Neo-fascist state to the south, is brilliant. The west has made a conspiracy by calling Feudal States like India, as democratic states! Even after 50 years of independence, India is far from a normal democracy! If Indians are exploiting their own peoples (60% of Indians live under poverty), how can Nepalese expect Generosity from Indians? But the Biggest contribution of Maoist Revolt in Nepal is that the Poor in India will one day learn something from the events in Nepal. Maoists in Nepal and India are being United through CCOMPOSA. thats why the ruling classes in India are deadly afraid of the Maoism gaining momentum in Nepal. Foester

You must be be a Maoist yourself. Your previous comments on these boards all seem to be shameless apologias for Maobadi atrocities in Nepal. ...Maoists are not Proxies for Chinese... Clearly incorrect. Although the PRC does not tolerate Maoism within China itself, it is more than happy to promote Maoist insurgencies elsewhere, such as in Cambodia and Peru. By supporting Maoists, china will cool down relationships, (MFN) status with it trading partners in the west. I disagree. The PRC governmetn even went so far as to make the Americans "apologise" for the PLA stealing one of their surveillance aircraft. The US governmetn is addicted to cheap labour in communist slave states - another reason why the Maoists are so keen to take control of Nepal, as they can then become rich exploiting the working people of Nepal for the sake of Western states (Maoist and Marxist slave states don't pay their workforce anything near what their labour is worth, pocketing the proceeds). Another reason is to set up Nepal as an center for illicit drug creation. Your second point that Nepal is suffering due to Neo-fascist state to the south, is brilliant. You have manufactured a comment out of thin air, and have attributed it to me as "brilliant". In fact Nepal is bordered by a democratic socialist state to the south (India) and a fascist state to the north (the PRC). Your lack of knowledge of even this simple reality proves even more that you are a foreign adventurer and not a native Nepali. Wow, I didn't know Nepal could be so interesting. Everyone is focusing on Taiwan, India and the South China Sea. To say China is not a Maoist state is surely incorrect. Mao thought is taught to everyone up to the second year at college (along with Deng Xiao Ping Theory and the Three Represents, which all found their way into the new constitution.). Nepal as a hideout for Tibetan refugess? Very intriguing, Nepal is probably also an impromptu base for the Tibetan resistance, which is backed by India. This makes behind the scenes support for the Maoists by China very important. The Chinese support probably comes not from Beijing but through local party officials and local PLA commanders. That way if China's support was exposed to the world, Beijing could blame local authorities acting out of the best interests of "regional stability" and save face. No doubt the PLA arms and trains the Maoists, how else could peasants and sheepherders be doing so well? The PLA is also into smuggling drugs and prostitution into and through Tibet, with Nepal being natural corridor for SE Asian hash and heroin (does poppy grown in Nepal?). As for whether India is a democracy or not, they are a long way ahead of China regardlessly. Having a true multiparty system and voting process as well as the peaceful transition of power from one elected leader to the next is something you won't see in China for decades. But having a thousands of years old social system is a heavy burden for any country to carry, the caste system will eventually work itself out.

By keeping a soft line on the PRC, instead of making it clear just how despotic a tyranny this government is, teh CIA enables pro-China business interests in this country to help CHina industrialise without restrictions. This encourages them to step all over the human rights of the Tibetians they are ethnically cleansing from Tibet, which would tend over time to increase Tibetian refugees in Nepal.
