I heard there is a project in south korea where they have a plan for increased military power after reunification with n.korea. So does anyone know what their goal is afterwards (increased defense, sending troops overseas, etc)?

I believe that South Korea, or just Korea, I guess, intends to build an aircraft carrier.

Actually, i just found out that south korea is developing a blue water navy. In a another article it said that south korea is deciding to get an aircraft carrier. Does anyone know the final decision? because the article i read was real old (about a few years).

Why does Korea want a blue water navy?? With us, the USA, still fully engaged in west Asia, what is their rationale? Do they doubt our long term staying power?

Why shouldn't they have one? They are a sovereign nation, and nothing protects your international interests better than a navy. They can't rely on America forever, after all. They can't predict future American actions and leaders, it is wise to build a decent navy. Of course, one carrier isn't really all that useful. Three would be much more effective, as it would allow you to have 2 at sea at any given time, useful since carriers need a lot of downtime.
