Subject: Indian Intrest in Mirage 2000-V
corrector    2/15/2004 8:00:31 PM
I have recently read some reports on the IAF showing increasing intrest in buying 126 Mirage 2000-V's from France. If I am not correct the Mirage 2000 - V's are also known as the Rafael. The Rafael being the lastest in the Mirage series by Desault. The main reason for the IAF showing this intrest is due to the slow progress on the LCA and also a growing need to replace the Mig 21, 23, 25, 27 planes. Although India plans to produce 140 odd Su-30MKI's in the coming few years and accuire about 50 straight from Russia making a total of 200 SU-30MKI's, the IAF will further benefit from the Rafael in my opinion, making sure that all the planes with the IAF are world class and hence giving the IAF a huge advantage over PAF and the PLAAF. The IAF is already experiecned in operating the Mirages 2000H as it has 50 odd of these planes. Another intresting issue is the competition between Indian and Pakistan to acquire about 10 Rafael's from the Quateri Airforce who had purchased these 10-12 Rafael's from France in 1998 and now plan to sell them. Both Indian and Pakistan have snown intrest in buying these 10-12 odd Rafael's from Quatar but no formal decisions have been taken yet. What do y'all think. Is the Rafael the plane that the IAF should go for? Who do you think will Quatar sell their 10-12 odd Rafaels to? Indian or Pakistan? Does anyone know what is the latest and the most recent on the talks between Indian and France over the sale of 126 Rafael's? -corrector

i don't really think there is such a problem with funding . i think the major problem is that it is being developed by a govt. owned agency. the culture of laziness and extreme inefficiency is holding it back a lot. they could go at a much faster rate, i know for sure they could have on many other defence projects. if only they could be given motiviation, i see privitization like the US did as the only option, but the guyz running it have to be still nationalistic and morally sound. aiming for utopia there lol.... still wht evr they doing atleast good
