Subject: RE:Grenadiers Regiment Question

"About Skinner switching sides- I presume you have that on good authority? I had an extract on him in my art book for the regimental period that indicated that he sat out the war and then switched sides." -- Yep - Phillip Mason, probably the only man so obssessed with Indian Army's history. "For the PBG - its a preponderance of Rajputs,Jats, sikhs. But doesn't that doesn't sound very "mandal" does it?" -- What exactly is "mandal", if I may ask?... sorry dont speak the lingo. "Regarding the grenadiers- I wouldn't have a clue- no famous oils or even watercolours for that matter (mostly because they were raised post-independence). But if conventional wisdom is any guide then I believe they are selected on basis of build and height. As are most troops in Grenadier regiments world-over." -- They have just changed their name from Indian Grenadiers to simply Grenadiers. Theirs is a long regimental history as Bombay Grenadiers. When 8th Bombay NI was raised to Bombay Grenadiers the practise of selecting only certain size soldiers was adopted... but dunno if it continues. Back then grenadiers were the 4th in seniority, now they are 6th right? so that may have eroded their position and standards a bit.
