Subject: Any way to stop standoff JDARMS?
Question    12/1/2003 9:50:33 AM
Okay im not sure if the spelling is correct, but it should be standoff JDARMS.I think. Is there any ground-based air defence that can stop an aircraft from launching a JDARM?Im not talking about anti-missles,i mean something to stop the aircraft from launching it.Is there any SAM or stuff like that, that can stop fighters from getting into range and doing serious damage with those JDARMs?

Asters can shoot all these aricraft down before the nekulturny American aircraft can drop one single JDAM. So that's it. Buy French military equipment, and you'll be safe from JDAM's. I guarantee it.

Do you mean JDAM? If so any launch aircraft has to be within 15 miles of the target. At that range you want total dominance/SEAD I'd doubt any aircraft would be going into a 30 mile radius target area unless they were safe to do so.

WDDavenport are you high or something??? What drugs are you on? French made Aster SAM's are good weapons, but against B-2 et al. with their support aircraft they are useless. They could get some kills, but they would be blow away before they could cause any real problems. The French economy is so crappy that it can hardly afford to field many Aster SAM's.

I think the issue NOT raised is very interesting. Can you shoot down PGM after it has left the aircraft. Cruise missiles should be reasonably easy to shoot down, but bombs gliding down? Anybody know anything??

Give me 24 hrs thomas and I can give you examples of brit SAMs intercepting shells and unguided ordinance. within given paramters I would say yes. there are technologies in existence that can intercept 5" naval shells, so I would think a free fall gliding bomb is not as complex a target to destroy

Sea Wolf springs to mind, but that's shipborne.

depends whether you are looking at a ground launched intercept, aircarft currently on CAP, whether its over a Carrier Battle Group etc... Currently S3 Vikings that were airborne usinfg ISAR could act in concert with aircraft running CAP. The israeli mod of the Patriot is considered to be a nore effective and consistent system, and as Heorot indicated, the Brits have intercepted Katushya rockets on some recent tests. am trying to dig up a recent article I have that covered off this subject

sorry guys, gave some incorrect info. the katushya and shell intercepts have been done by a US-Israeli THED laser platform. The brits have intercepted 5" naval shells with a seawolf, but so has goalkeeper and the phalanx/dalek gunnery systems
