Subject: RE: 'Ridiculous' logic
Jiun Si    9/26/2004 3:26:12 AM
The UNSC is undoubtedly a round table of the major nuke military powers (India inclusive) of the world and there is a good reason for this.

Imagine a security policy (or resolution) voted in deep contrast to the major interests of any of them. A nuke war disaster can rock the earth, so the Veto powers in a way can help to 'safeguard' global security because they, undoubtedly have stranglehold the world's security.

The reality of the UNSC is that there is no democracy in military. If, for example, all nations, but the veto powers for some reason, don't want to invade a certain law-abiding sovereign state and vote against 'unilateral' military action by the veto powers, what do you think they, as a majority, can do about it if the veto powers persist on?

This is a reality, no matter how 'obsolete' you think the UN is now. It provides a privilege chance for the veto powers to discuss severe global security issues in the hope of reaching a consensus among themselves.
