The Taliban insurgents were killed in a joint operation by Afghan and NATO-led German troops and US special forces, which began Wednesday in the northern province of Kunduz.

The dead included a local Taliban commander and Uzbek and Chechen fighters.

The children died in an explosion in Nuristan's Barg-e-Matal district, Governor Jamaluddin Bader said.

_______

ps. whats not in the official news yet is that very likely the killed Taliban Commander is "Qari Bashir Haqqani", responsible for the death of 14 German soldiers in the Area.

... "Media sources suggest that the insurgents in Kunduz province raised up to 400 fighters against foreign and Afghan troops over this year. According to the best accurate counting, 317 of them have already bitten the dust or were captured."

PS:  As I think about it I feel inclined to post a little tribute to US troops.  ...   ( this video actually shows the 1990 "thank you - Zapfenstreich") that was given to the Allied forces protecting Berlin in Nov. 1990 after reunification.
