The German magazine Stern has recently published an report on the efforts of the German led ISAF part that is operating in Kabul, Kunduz and Feyzabad.
To sum it up, there is a huge part of the country that is improoving and getting increasingly sucessful in rebuilding and reestablishing economic structures. And that is a to huge part the success of German effords , although our effords have been criticized a lot for sending only commandos and Tornado fighters to help the War in the South.
While the Taliban have some success and gain from their War in the South, the Peace in the North is bringing a lot of trouble to them. That is because the German and Allied Troops in the north have spend a lot of time rebuilding schools throughout the country. There are more girls going to school today than did before the Soviet Invasion for example. And the Afghans today demand that, it has even driven the Taliban to announce that there are no more attacking schools, but themselves will provide money to build schools. But Afghans today also begin to see that the Taliban are only giving them hate and death compared to what is happening in the North of the country. Its not all looking bright up there, but it is one front where the Taliban are loosing the grip and are on retreat. |
