Subject: Do we need more troops in Afghanistan?
swami    3/21/2004 6:42:18 PM
I have heard a great deal about how we should have sent in more troops into Iraq. I am open to the argument, but I am a bit skeptical that it would have made much of a difference.
But Afghanistan is another issue. We only have 11,000 troops there plus some odd NATO troops. I must admit that during the war, I liked the idea of letting the tribes do most of the fighting, but that decision may have come back to haunt us. We may have let Al Quaeda go at Tora Bora because of it.
It also seems to me like we are giving too much power to war lords making a democratic transition far more difficult. If we had 40,000 troops there, would it be easier to deal with the Taliban, Al Quaeda and the war lords?
