Don Vandervelde    The Sorcere.r's Apprentice   12/28/2014 9:58:48 PM
China "modernizing" advanced weapons amusingly, reminds me of Disney's movie The Sorcerer's Apprentice. The apprentice, Mickey Mouse, took advantage of the sorcerer's absence to play around in his shop. Of course he has no idea what he's doing and in trying use this magic, accidentally destroys the building and himself. What our communist enemies don't understand is that liberty and the free market are essential to creating and using advanced weapons and modern science and engineering. That's why they are always behind and losing.

Took russia 3 generations to wakeup from it's communist dream. China still has 25 years to go before it all falls down. Here's hoping it's a little faster than that.

I will add that innovation is built on the shoulders of experience that stealing secrets will not give you.

There where two articles written here about Chinese aircrafts recently. Doing it alone. Here is the problem... the most advanced of aircrafts are too expensive to be "done alone" by any nation. What I think will happen with the doing alone is that they will produce a bunch of products that will not work... and with their attitude about royalties and patents, etc. no one is going to want to share anything with them.

'Customers' means Pakistan, in the first place, I guess. I have found that it is offered as 'low cost' and I don't know how 'low' it is.

Any one knows what this thing weights?????

And look what they did to the Marines... it weights 63,000 Lbs!!!!

I hope that SOME ONE will notice that these behemoths and not transportable except in tiny quantities.

This is what would have happen to the LCS if the Navy had not stopped the Sea Captains from over loading it to the hilt with their never ending wish list.

I'm not buying the song and dance that the J-20 is supposed to be an Air Superiority Fighter. It's built like an interdiction aircraft with a secondary air-to-air capability, like the F-15E Strike Eagle or the Su-30 Flanker.

"Air Superiority Fighter" - it is not one. Too big.

They do not have air superiority fighters and neither do we. I am not sure that it is an interdiction and strike one in the manner of an F-111 or F-15 either since those require a heavier frame and typically carry a second crewman to handle the weapons.

I think the J-20 is intended as a fighter bomber. But in my opinion there are un-explained features of the J-20 such as how the canards work with stealth and how do they manage with out thrust vectoring. The latter allows the aircraft to be steered with out moving the control surfaces which is an important advantage of the F-22.

To me a J-20 seems closer to an F-15B and it might still lack certain things. I do not think that it can match an F-35 either. And there are so few of them too with stealth requiring so many hours of maintenance, etc. you need more. A lot more of them.

Baloney to all of HR's nonsense.. If you steal the core tech, you can make a good stab at aircraft signal management. Engines and avionics/weapons in the launch platform integration? Whole different ball game. That's where war-fighting comes in. China has not done the bleeding to know what doesn't work.

You don't KNOW how air superiority warfare works. BT. Go LOOK at an Eagle, Sukhoi,  (or an F-22) BIG planes with BIG radars.
