Canada needs to buy the Super-Gripen.

What works in Sweden and in Central Europe does NOT work in Canada.

Pierre Sprey would love Gripen. But...  he's an idiot.

I actually like Gripen for its intended purpose of local limited point defense and battlefield CAS which fit Sweden's needs.

That purpose was not to meet Canada's needs.

Canada in airspace is bigger than the US.

Canada also faces SUKHOI 27s, 30s etc,. from the enemy first team.

First look, first shoot, or FIRST DEAD. Those are the heart of missile tactics.

Radar is the key to that. Gripen's radar is not good enough

What "enemy first team" are you describing here? We haven't directly faced front-line enemy fighters since we mixed it up with the Luftwaffe over Germany in WW2. Considering our foreign policies, we will never unilaterally start a war with another country, and by the time we normally join coalitions and get aircraft in theater, the Suhkois will already have be downed by other coalition aircraft. We don't have the Russians coming over the North Pole anymore, and we aren't going to mess with China given they are trying to buy all our energy conglomerates and are going to have some considerable leverage in Canada in the near future. So who are we likely to face?

Russians.

Those oil deposits in that ocean are so....        tempting. And they ARE operating as they used to,or haven't you seen

or

Why do you think Canada bought British SUBMARINES and refitted them for arctic combat operations?
They didn't plan to hunt Americans, there.

P.s. Russians send MESSAGES so that they are clearly understood. Happy 4th of July to the US.

Intercepting elderly Bears droning across the Pacific or Arctic is something easily handled by any existing fighter aircraft, be it a Super Gripen, F-35, or Mig-21.

Wake me when they start practicing large-scale refueling exercises over water of those Suhkois, short-legged birds as they are, so they can actually make it to Canadian airspace and back.

Is there any significant difference between refueling over land and over water that they would need to practice there? Because Russia already has mid-air refueling.

The B-52 is an elderly cruise missile  carrier and launcher, Slim.

Just because you can't see the intercept problem, doesn't mean OTHERS cannot.

Including the Canadian air defense.

... intruder intercepts last August 2012, did you miss?

The main USAF is too far away to save your Canadian Bacon. Read a map and do the intercept calculations.

Then we'll talk.

Please don´t spam the forum with false facts and claim that some others need to learn. Of course everyone need to learn, but not as much as you.

Te Gripen NG or E is made for combat with SU-35, so the older ones you talk about will be less of a problem. Gripen E have a very powerful AESA-radar that is much more than a radar, the only one that can even look backwards, and the range is higher than most modern fighters. The agility is the best you can find and the visibility to enemies the smallest you can find. It take 90% of the weaponsload of the Superhornet.
