RedParadize    Good news for canadians   3/30/2011 10:43:49 PM
Some here might remember my personal opinion about Canada buying the F-35, well i have to say that i changed my mind.

The contract say 9 billions for 65 aircrafts, probably around 16 billions program including maintenance. So roughly 138millions per aircraft without the maintenance. (I still think the cost will rise but will see, my bet remain a 150m$ price tag)

Nothing new here, But the bright side is what we gonna do here in Canada. Economist expect 12 billions for our Canadians company. They might be affordable after all...

Given the other option (almost none lol), I think the plus value of the F-35 is worth it.

here is my ref. I am sure you can find english version of it yourself.

I wouldnt take the PBO report at face value if I were you, I'd have a close look and see that ca 75m is still a conservative estimate for URC
thats leaving aside that LRIP 4 is already below what their 2018 cost is

75m estimate is keep for political reason only. noone is taking it seriously. and as i said, i still expect a 150 or more price tag. Given the economic fallout here in canada it still a accepteable cost.

Dont worry, I remember what serious poster here have said, these estimate are to be taken with a grain of salt.

It depends what you are including in your 150m
if are going by the PBO, you haven't really looked at it, i suggest you google, there are a few creditable links refuting their claim, the PBO has it arse up
150m is the PBO URF estimate
~60-75m is the australian, canadian, usa URF estimate from multiple sources

Thanks you JackJack. I am aware that, but the United State Government Accountability Office say something else. And they are not alone.

Lets put it that way, When I bid for a contract, I usualy had a 30% on top of it for the thing that I didnt planed or the one that will go wrong. I fell that LM have been overly optimistic in their evaluation. I also doubt 3000s of them will be sold, not because its not a good plane, but because of the economic and political situation.

So I might be a bit high on my evaluation, but I prefer to be too high than to low.

well seeing URF f-35a LRIP 3 was ~140m and LRIP 4 is ~125m,
seeing these are already below, its safe to say your 150m is indeed a safe bet

what yr $ were the 50-60m in ?
The Norwegian defence ministry announced on 25 September that it will buy four F-35s in 2016 to serve as trainers, but that the remaining aircraft planned for purchase in 2016 and 2017 will be postponed until 2018.

the 2016 URF for the f-35a LRIP is about 90m

We were told 54 m pr.aircraft in the 2016 timeframe. The deal is supposed to be much cheaper then what the SAAB could offer Gripen for, which is why the government choose the jet.

And they something like 3.2 billons for 48 airplanes.

At this time, do you think thats even possible? I've known weve been a supporter of the JSF for ages...but the development hasnt exactly been trouble free...
