I know the Eurofighters are costly, but are they going to replace the Tornado's GR4 anytime soon?

Since we're quite a few years from having full air-to-ground capabilities, the Tornado GR.4 will be around for at least another ten years. Britain has been fighting with the rest of the Eurofighter consortium to move more air-to-ground features forward, but even if they win this disagreement the timeframe is years off. F-35s may be a better air-to-ground choice for the UK. They are certainly planning a far (FAR) wider array of stores and have a better AtG sensor package. (And the timeframe for a full and operational air-to-ground capability is very similar to Typhoon. And the projected unit cost for the F-35 is considerably less). -- Shaken - out --

GR.4 isnt meant to replaced by Typhoon, which is replacing the F.3 and the Jaguar. FOAS which could be made up of a big Wing JSF will replace the GR.4.
