Subject: RE:Future of Army Aviation - BRIGAND

"Just a warning to not get your hopes up. The Carter concept looks very cool, just don't be surprised if it never gets it's camo paint job."

Well I do have my hopes up but not because it looks cool. I guess I was impressed by the cost of operation and performance benefits they are forcasting for these aircraft (Range, Speed, Load, and Fuel consumption) the V-22 and the Harrier have some great features but they do it at the expense of being practical. The V-22 has a real problem transitioning from vertical to foward flight and the Harrier does not really do vertical take off or landing with a full combat load. If this design has merit... Heliplanes will do all these things with out sacraficing performance and increasing operational cost. I concede your points that rarely will the military take these risk without a major player backing the design. Lets hope that happens. So I guess only time will tell. Hopefully this will not play out to be another Rotodyne. link
