This book covers the behind story of Japan's failed attempt to acquire F-22 from Americans, and the birth of Shin Shin as 21st successor of Zero Sen within Japanese DoD.

After the debacle with Aegis systems being traded for sex by mid level NCOs in Japan, it isn't surprising that we'd hold out on the F22.  There are just some technologies that shouldn't be exported, but for allies we can and should help them develop indigenous 5th gen fighters without revealing key components.  The Brits, Aussies, Japanese and Koreans can develop their own stealth materials and ASEA radars without any help.

It might also help the US gov't recoup some of the cost just on the billable hours from military and civilian designers for allies' 5th gen aircraft.  Lots and lots of billable hours.
