< link > A PLAAF general appeared on CCTV's airforce special documentary today, confirmed that they were putting finishing touches to first prototype of China's F-22 class fighter and will make its maiden flight shortly, and hope to introduce into service within 8~10 years. The announcement of Chinese 5th gen fighter deployment as early as 2017 forces China's neighbors to go with Typhoon(Second best air-superiority fighter after F-22, which can engage stealth fighters with AWACS assist), or pressure the US to sell them F-22 to counter Chinese F-22 class fighters deployed in a massive volume.

Intake is wrong.
Weapon carry is wrong.
Canopy is wrong.
Nose is wrong.
Canards are wrong.
PRC general is wrong, etc.

Summed up?

Wrong.

It's pretty, but stealth? Not with all that ordnance hanging under the wing.  I don't see any provision for internal bays, which the J-10 wouldn't have room for without a massive fuselage redesign.

SlowMan, where did you get that image from? I'd like to see a side shot of that.

Super-10 will have stealth and supercruise.

Not with a nosecone like that
Not with a wing root design like that on the canards
Not with an IRST sitting up there like the equiv of an aviation wart
Not with intakes designed like that
Not with a flat plane array (implied by the nosecone shape etc...)
Not with basketball hoops supporting the c0ckpit design

It's a nice photoshop impression of a gen 4 architecture in being.  it's certainly not a viable future platform

Just one example is that the is nothing new about L-band radars.  In fact, nearly all air surveillance, SAM target acquisition radars, and the most modern multi-function SAM target engagement radars are L-band or *lower*--yet since F-35 is "optimized for ground attack" (as so many fanboys claim whenever they allege the F-35 won't be the 2nd-best air-to-air fighter in the world), then just exactly what radar frequency ranges do you think the F-35's LO will be optimized against?

Rather than merely considering stealth in isolation, there is also the prospect of widespread jamming from Growlers/Prowlers, decoys such as MALD, chaff, and a sky full of JASSM, JSOW, HARM, cruise missiles.  I think the ground radar operators will be pretty busy trying to concentrate merely on F35 tracks.

Chinese Air Force official: China's fourth-generation fighters refer to modified J-10 fighters

16:48, November 24, 2009

China's fourth-generation fighters reported by media recently refer to a series of modified J-10 fighters, a Chinese Air Force official said November 23, 2009.

As to the classification of fighter generations, the world's military powers are varied. The U.S. defines F-15, F-16 fighters with the characteristics of transonic speed in medium-low altitude as third generation fighters and F-22, F-35 fighters with good performance in stealth, super sonic cruise and super maneuverability as fourth generation fighters.

Russia defines MiG-29, Su-27/30 fighters as third generation fighters and defines Su-35, the modified third generation fighters as fourth generation. The new generation of fighters with good performance in stealth, super sonic cruise and super maneuverability are defined as fifth generation.

The official said that China's fighters were independently created on the basis of introduction and imitation of Russian-made equipment and the fourth-generation fighters referred to the modified J-10 fighters.

I personally think that the CHCOMs and many in the aviation world are makign a big mistake by totally disregarding the F-35A and C. The plane isnt known to super cruise on paper.  Buts its VLo and 360 degree IR with Auto target queing will be a nightmare for anything leaving a hot plume or super cruising. It will also show up in massive numbers.

It's a PR stunt, westerners are just calmer than Easterners when it comes to this kind of mostly fake news.
