Thales Targets Sales in Russia
Paris - Thales is looking for export sales of its airborne optronics equipment on to Russian-built fighters, given that the U.S. market is effectively closed to foreign suppliers of such gear, CEO Denis Ranque said.

That weakness in the fleet of Sukhoi and MiG fighters has opened up opportunities for selling products such as the Damocles targeting pod and OSF infrared search-and-track equipment fitted on the Rafale fighter from France's Dassault Aviation, Ranque says.

dont cry, why should the fanboys have all the fun

The OSF gear offers a long-range passive sensor that makes it hard to detect, Ranque said. The Rafale is the only fighter aircraft equipped with that capability, he added.
"The export prospects for the Rafale are reasonable now,"

will russia also buy the rafale, the best plane in the world ?

LOL
French market is closed as well.Everybody protect its technology base and design capability on such key high tech items.
However Russia is well beind France in optronic (or sonar or ECM) and so is willing to add sometime french equipement to the gear they export like French thermal camera sold for russian tank purchased by India.
It is no question to equip a single Russian build fighter for Russia which would add to their military capability.

Rafale F3+ is now certainly the best multirole fighter available for export since F22 is not exported and F35 not yet available (IOC in 2012) with no tech transfert allowed (except for UK).
However never Russia, China, Iran, Venezuela... would get a single Rafale even they would pay twice the price.

i dont know if they want the rafale, they might be just as happy to have world leading 5th generation french electronics
they seem pretty happy with their su's
if the rafale rcs is 0.001 sq m, what do you think the rcs of the su will be, 0.002 or 0.003 sq m ?
it will certainly be a top 5th gen fighter, wont it, but of course not as good as the rafale

I have no problem to think that Russian Pakfa will have a much better passive stealth than Rafale and probably on par with F35.
Pakfa will probably use VLO classical passive stealth approach which make sense considering Russian weakeness in last generation electronic to use a combo signature management approach LO/ECM like Rafale use.
And it would be a much more recent design as a platform.
Should be better in AtoA than Rafale. Still Pakfa  is post 2015 for IOC and we should have a Rafale F4+ at this time.

I don't think that Rafale could go under 0,01 in futur versions.Potential will be limited by lacking an internal bay even we use stealthy coocooning of weapons or even conformal approach like F15SE.However our jamming systems will also improve.

my mistake, i got the decemil in the wrong spot
i wasnt refering to the PAKFA but the su-30's etc
you said without the electronics the rafale would have a rcs of 1 sqm but is reduced a 100 times when the 5th gen electronics is activated
this of course would also apply to the su-30, reducing the rcs about 100 times with the french 5th gen electronics
it will make the su-30 a 5th generation plane like the rafale, but not as good
do you think the su-30 will be 0.02 or 0.03 rcs ?

No more ridiculous than thinking the Rafale can achieve an RCS of .01 meters^2...

hey, dont shoot the messenger, i was just passing on that the russians will get french pixie dust and was wondering what the "expert" french posters thought what the su-30 rcs would be when this is sprinkled
what you need to do is join their circle and hold hands and chant " we believe"
after all, what are the chances that they are just know-nothing fanboying trolls

Does France really want to sell this stuff to the Russians--you know, the guys who will go and sell such tech immediately to potential enemies of France?

I'm sure that will make Rafale and Mirage drivers the AdA over happy that they might be facing their own damn electronics in combat.

I take this article with a grain of salt , but it is indeed a possible deal .
France could indeed sell different optical and /or IR hardware to Russia . Not that I like it but it is possible .

What people have to understand is that Russia is not seen anymore as a potential powerfull enemy enough to take on the 27 Nations of Europe . They also don 't want a nuclear war . Europe is now far stronger than Russia is and by miles .

Cheers .
