< link > "U.S. asks Japan to pay Y1 bil for fighter jet info Sunday 04th October, 10:53 AM JST TOKYO — The U.S. government has asked Japan to pay around 1 billion yen for information related to the capabilities of the U.S. F-35 fighter jet, a leading candidate for JapanĄŻs next-generation mainstay fighter, sources close to Japan-U.S. relations said Saturday. The U.S. side has also told Japan that Washington will provide information on the jetĄŻs stealth capabilities for evading radar detection once Tokyo makes a decision to purchase the fighter jet, the sources said." Well, the US DoD is pushing Japan into the arms of Eurofighter...

Awesome.  So only most Japanese are xenophobic liars.  Thanks for clearing that up, SlowMan.

I'm going to go home and set fire to my Asian Studies degree because SlowMan obviously knows all there is about Japan.  I'm so glad I have the internet so I can be lectured by him.  All those profs I had in college...hah!  All fools compared to the SlowMeister.

Can't wait to e-mail my Japanese friends and tell them they've been lying to me all this time.  I'm sure they'll humbly admit that I'm just a stupid gaijin and that a Korean fanboy has them all figured out.

The problem for you is that your Japanese friends (not being anonymous) will type the words, "No, he's not telling you the truth, we think you are number one," but they will make facial and hand gestures while typing those words and transmitting their emails to you, gestures that when decoded using the Rules of Honne Communication would plainly tell you that the troll from Korea is right.

Gotcha.  I'll be sure to tell them to have their webcams on.

You don't want to know the grotesque faces I am making right now.

You don't care, but Robert Gates and Barack Hussein Obama do. In fact, Obama's going to make F-35 sales pitch to Hatoyama during his Japan visit.

No, they couldn't care less. Japan can "consider" the Raptor all they want to for their F-X program, but that's as simple as chasing after rainbows.

I do find the parallels between his ignorance of the Japanese and his ignorance of fighter aircraft amusing.

In both cases he seems intent on getting into pissing matches with people who actually know what they are talking about, leaving him looking like a complete and utter fool.

> Surely not Mothra

Mothra was always toast every time, but leaving en egg or two for the next sequel.

True.

xenophonic, yes.
liar; well, they are culturally trained to not say impolite things. Being polite is more important than being truthful in Japanese culture.

> I'm going to go home and set fire to my Asian Studies degree

You have one? You don't deserve it and should burn it. Your degree is worthless regardless and I don't understand why you wasted your time and money on pursuing a worthless degree like that.

Probably has something to do with the money, Slow.  At least two colleges so far have disagreed with your estimation of it being a worthless degree and that I didn't deserve it.

You are right about politeness being more important than the truth in Japanese society.  I shall emulate their fine example and not say what my general opinion of you is at the moment.

So if you are rich enough to waste your money on something as worthless as Asian Studies degree, fine with me. Thank God for your good fortunes.

Then I have no other means to detect if you really mean something else, like body gesture. This is why you get to see the Honne of Japanese people on the net.

I can agree with Slow man for a long way with what he said about the Japanese.

As for Honne and Tatemae. One area in my opinion where you can see a glimpse of how the Japanese think of the West is in how they act and in what they do.

And their actions indicate to me that the Japanese do not view us nearly as favorable as some of us like to think. Some of their actions even indicate they despise us and view themselves as superior.
