UAE Rafale sales update < link > - France must buyback UAE's existing fleet of 69 Mirage2000-9 fighters - Engine thrust upgraded form 7.5 ton to 9 ton to cope with UAE's hot weather - AESA radar, improved optronics, a new sensor for missiles - Must carry the Meteor A2A missile - 60 for UAE - 14~28 possible for Kuwait - Delivery to start in 2014

ah, makes a bit more sense now.  I thought you were suggesting that other countries should consider them as interims.

although, some of the prev still applies.  granted the sunk costs have been realised and "recovered" but the through life support costs of platforms when they hit 75-80% of their nominal service life starts to make them an expensive procurement child.  The ratio gets ugllier with respect to maint costs and availability and absolute utility.  Thats why larger countries tend to park them or keep them as emergency war stock. (eg the US,  to some extent Canada, Russia and China being good examples of this)

Ya, but since the UAE M2000 have been delivered in 1989. I guess they still can serve another 10 year... Specialy when you look how expessive new fighter are!

The ideal customer would be Peru. We have a potential conflict with Chile in 2011 regarding the Peruvian demand to close the maritimal border. There is not a real border, just an fishing agreement. Chile don't want to talk about it and it's showing their toys in the Salitre-2009 exersice this month.
Peruvian fleet it's very old, plenty of russian scrap and 12 Mirages-5 and it's not mach for the 40 Chilean F-16.
