J-15 apparently made its first flight last month. J-15 is said to be a clone of Su-33 intended for Chinese carriers.

As I see it:

1) Carrier of that size are best used to find subs. As the old Harrier Carriers.
2) Access to the Indian Ocean is closed by the Malaccan Straight and the other way round - South of Tasmania is not as easy as it would seem. Let's say the Australians have considered the possibility.

Let's for a moment consider the purpose of a Chinese High Sea Fleet. As far as I can see, it must be to secure the oilsupply - maybe I don't see very far; but considering the Chinese economic policy, they don't look very far: Selling for 2 decades at prices below production cost, does not seem very smart to me.

well, its not only the FPDA partners who plan for events such as the closure of the Straits.  The Indians deliberately turned the Andomans/Nicobars into a mini Diego Garcia because they'll happily blockade the end of them if they get into a shooting war with China.  hence Chinas attempt to bracket them with deep sea facilities in Pakistan and a listening shop in Burma/Myanmar.

Then there is the issue of the big dog, they certainly won't be locking themselves up in Diego Garcia if things go pear shaped.

Bad news. China signed the port lease deal with North Korea instead of Vladivostok, Russia. The deal is an exclusive lease deal similar to proposed Vladivostok lease deal. Najin port is only 100 miles south to Vladivostok that China was originally eyeing. North Koreans probably felt that hosting a Chinese carrier group in Najin would serve as a deterrent against US and Japanese naval forces, in addition to money.
