Subject: Rafale F3 leading Brazilian F-X race on the promise of extensive tech transfer over Super Hornet
SlowMan    8/4/2009 3:43:03 PM
< link > Contenders Rafale F3 : $130 million per plane + extensive tech transfer Super Hornet : $90 million per plane, weapons and support + will buy some parts from Brazilian suppliers. Gripen NG : $60 million per plane. Will build half of NGs in Brazil. Rafale F3 is favored over Super Hornet because of the promise of an extensive tech transfer.

I am old enough to remember the lies about the performance and cost of the F111 that resulted in the cancellation of the TSR2. The lies about the performance of Skybolt remains in my memory too, those lies led to the cancellation of the Blue Steel II stand-off missile.

Both projects were major causes of the demise of so many British defence companies to the point that we no longer have a major defence company (BAe is American these days).

I am convinced that those lies were the result of a policy decision to sabotage the British aircraft and missile industries.

i worked for one of englands finest when it was solely british.  you do realise how often they've been pulled over for bribery and kickbacks?  in fact they ended up purging their entire middle management one year in the eastern quadrant due to corruption and maladminsitration issues over sales to a middle eastern  and asia minor clients  in fact they used to at ome stage rebadge israeli systems under a sweetheart deal and sell them as their own to middle eastern clients.  that all came a cropper once the jordanians twigged.
remember how the swedes have played in india?
remember how the french ripped off the israelis, not just with aircraft, but with the cherbourg incident?
remember the claims made against the french with respect to the MBT trials in greece

so,blaming the americans is cute by half.  there are no saints in this game.

commerce is war and every country has exercised their political enthusiasm wherever they can.  quite frankly, the UK aerospace industry also hoisted itself on its own petard irrespective of TSR2.  They ran their companies like a version of British Leyeland.  Duncan Sandys did more damage to UK defence companies than the US ever did.

"Basically, it's some king of sick, twisted game. Some idiots claims that the Rafale is the worst plane in the world for x/y/z reason and BW answers with claims that Rafale is the best plane in the world for a/b/c. Then it devolves in a perverse collective lynching with flocks of posters letting go of all their angst by attacking BW. It's the kind of mob mentality that's only possible on an anonymous forum."

This is absolutely not true.

Find me a case where anyone here, with the possible exception of Herald, has ever said the Rafale is the "worst" plane in the world or even that it wasn't a good plane.

Almost without exception everyone on this board considers the Rafale to be a fundamentally sound design with a lot of nice capabilities and good potential for future growth.  Really nobody is saying otherwise.

That isn't enough for bluewings...  His pride demands that the Rafale be the "best" at pretty much everything and we are forced to sit through one idiotic posting after another were he makes up "kill ratios" against "any F-teen"  that are 3-4 to 1 in the Rafale's favor.  (or other equally idiotic assertions about the magical powers of Spectra, or the Mica, or whatever)  He insists that the Rafale is the best at everything, with the exception of the F-22 where he believes it is second but somehow a competitor.

With his exception pretty much everyone here is trying to deal with the real world but he insists on making up one lie after another.

"The Rafale is "better" than any F-teen," "The Rafale is "better" than the Typhoon," "the AMRAAM has only a 10% probability of kill," blah blah blah

If he said "the Rafale is my favorite plane" nobody would care.  If he said "I think the Rafale is the best looking fighter" some would disagree but nobody would care.  It is when he starts saying idiotic stuff like what is reposted below, all from this one !$&*ing thread...

"Yes I do . In every scenario , the Rafale will come on top with the better kill ration against any F-Teen . It is not going to be 100-1 (I am not stupid) , it 's not gonna be 10-1 (I am not a troll) but it can be 3-1 to 4-1 (I am realistic) . That number is high but the French ECMs against US radars and misssiles are highly capable and have been a nightmare for your pilots for the past 20 years . On the other hand , you don 't know much about the Mica EM and you (and others) are worried about the IR version ."

"Are you drunk ??? The actual Raf F3 is a dream machine for every Typhoon user ! I mean , for God sake , check the capabilities of the two aircrafts right now and in the incoming 5 years ! The Typhoon is at least 3 to 5 years behind (and I am kind) , then the airframe cannot be compared , the only marginal edge the Typhoon enjoys is the acceleration at high Mach and the better sustained turn rate over Mach 1.4 , that 's it . I mean that 's it ."

"Rafale 's ability to survive in deep strike penetration is better than F-15E and this is what counts , you want the aircraft to complete its mission and come back alive . As I said earlier , South-Koreans acknowledged the superiority of the Rafale ."

"Oh please , the Damoclès pod will be available this year and the Rafale does NOT need it because the AASM can do everything a LGB can do and more ."

"I disagree strongly on both points . The maintenance cost for a Rafale fleet is lower than for a SH fleet and after few years , the Dassault fighter represente a cheaper deal ."

"Are you simply jealous because your Hornets don 't even have half of something like Spectra Aussie Digger ?"

"One has to look at the claimed stuff and at the real operational kill ratio of the AMRAAM (less than 10%) . Enough said . Then , don 't come to me talking about the end game ..."

Idiotic stuff ? Everything you quoted from me is correct , where is the problem ? If you disagree on some points and want to have a positive debate , please do .

Cheers .

Ah , I see ... Basically as long as I don 't talk about the operational capabilities of the aircraft (to be kind with your Ego , in fact) , everything is fine . Ok , nice of you (not) .

Cheers .

More like... so long as you restricted your comments to subjects you understood.

Which would pretty well have you off this messageboard completely....

My knowledge and understanding on the Dassault Rafale is better than most think .
To this extend , let me put some things straight .

It has been said that I am making up (?) stuff about some of the Rafale capabilities , some even talk about me turning different parts of the aircraft into magical items (?) . Here is my response :

-1) Spectra :

""Spectra EW system, developed by Thales and MBDA, provides a multi-spectral threat warning capability against hostile radars, missiles and lasers. According to test pilots who have flown the Rafale, the EW system provides the aircraft with the highest survivability assets against airborne and ground threats to date. It also provides passive, 360-degree tactical situation awareness.

Considered a fully automatic self-protection system, Spectra provides passive, all-weather reliable, long-range detection, identification and geographical location of threats in the infrared, electromagnectic and electro-optical ranges. It uses short response times and cutting-edge defensive measures based on a combination of jamming, decoying and evasive maneuvers and technologies, such as Digital Radio Frequency Memory (DRFM) for signal processing.

The efficiency of Spectra notably was demonstrated in 2008 at the Red Flag exercise at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada, where during all sorties the Rafale escaped SAM missile threats. This followed a successful demonstration at the NATO MACE electronic warfare campaign in Europe.

The angular localization performance of Spectra makes it possible to precisely discover ground threats and to target them for immediate destruction with precision-guided munitions. In this totally passive mode, Spectra is also used as a general awareness and intelligence reporting system.

Instrumental in the Spectras performance is a threat library that can be defined, integrated and updated on short notice by users in their own country, allowing agile and continuous enhancement of the aircrafts protection as operations unfold. Being of modular design, the system is controlled by a dedicated computer with three processors.""

Spectra F3 provides 360deg awareness in all EM environments at up to 200km , multiple and simultaneous multi-band jamming with a precision of less than one degree , discrete low power jamming , high powered saturation for blanking and allows the aircraft to hide by lowering its RCS through spikes management . The system is using AESA array independently of the PESA/AESA radar .
The Rafale F3 not only integrates the largest and most modern range of sensors, it increases their efficiency through multi-sensor data fusion, allowing the aircraft to become a key element of a wider Network Centric Warfare system .

The Missile Warning System (MWS) adavantages :
? Aircraft protection against missile threats,
? Covert passive infrared detection in a panoramic field of view,
? Early warning,
? Multimissile capability,
? High probability of detection and low false alarm rate,
? High-accuracy localization of the missile threats compatible with directed infrared countermeasures ,
? Audio warning and display to the crew in real time,
? Easy integration (no EMC problem),
? Flight proven in battlefield environment.

-2) Radar :

""While the first 100 or so Rafales were fitted with the early Thales RBE2 radar, the most important sensor of the next generation Rafale will be the new Thales RBE2 AA active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar, which will replace the passive array of the RBE2.

Thales completed its first active phased array, comprising 1,000 gallium-arsenide Transmit/Receive modules, in 2006. In late April this year, the company said the RBE2 AA had successfully completed a new series of tests on Rafale, carried out jointly with the French DGA defense procurement agency, at the Cazaux flight-test center.

"This milestone marks the latest step toward qualifying the RBE2 AESA radars this year in readiness for delivery of the first two units to Dassault Aviation during the first quarter of 2010," Thales stated. "The radars will be installed on the aircraft in 2011 for delivery to the French Air Force early in 2012."

In operational terms, the RBE2 AA radar can track many targets in the radar field of view irrespective of the relative location between targets and/or the host aircraft. In addition, the radar provides a significant increase in detection range on enemy aircraft and a significant increase in reliability with respect to previous-generation radars.

ACT III
SCENE I. A room in the castle.

Enter KING CLAUDIUS, QUEEN GERTRUDE, POLONIUS, OPHELIA, ROSENCRANTZ, and GUILDENSTERN
KING CLAUDIUS
And can you, by no drift of circumstance,
Get from him why he puts on this confusion,
Grating so harshly all his days of quiet
With turbulent and dangerous lunacy?

ROSENCRANTZ
He does confess he feels himself distracted;
But from what cause he will by no means speak.

GUILDENSTERN
Nor do we find him forward to be sounded,
But, with a crafty madness, keeps aloof,
When we would bring him on to some confession
Of his true state.

QUEEN GERTRUDE
Did he receive you well?

ROSENCRANTZ
Most like a gentleman.

GUILDENSTERN
But with much forcing of his disposition.

ROSENCRANTZ
Niggard of question; but, of our demands,
Most free in his reply.

QUEEN GERTRUDE
Did you assay him?
To any pastime?

ROSENCRANTZ
Madam, it so fell out, that certain players
We o'er-raught on the way: of these we told him;
And there did seem in him a kind of joy
To hear of it: they are about the court,
And, as I think, they have already order
This night to play before him.

LORD POLONIUS
'Tis most true:
And he beseech'd me to entreat your majesties
To hear and see the matter.

KING CLAUDIUS
With all my heart; and it doth much content me
To hear him so inclined.
Good gentlemen, give him a further edge,
And drive his purpose on to these delights.

ROSENCRANTZ
We shall, my lord.

Exeunt ROSENCRANTZ and GUILDENSTERN

It is just funny watching you cut and paste mountains of information that you can't understand or put into its proper context.

Any idiot can cut and paste spec sheets and advertising brochure garbage.  You aren't doing anything to support your various idiotic fanboy theories.

Isn't there a truck driver message board somewhere?  Don't you think it would be fun to know what you are talking about for once?

Pathetic Rufus , pathetic ...

Of course for someone like you , it is far easier to shoot at the messenger rather than oppose with decent arguments .
"Brochure garbage" ? No , certainly not . Everything is genuine and official .
I think it is you who should be put in the garbage bin , you deserve it soooo much .
Rufus , you are the weakest link . Goodbye .

Cheers .
