"Gates will push Israel to take the F-35 as is without any Israeli subsystems or access to core software," a diplomatic source familiar with the visit said.

The above is the only line from the article that relates at least somewhat to the question of integration of Israeli weapons with the F-35.  Rufus' comments fit perfectly with that quote.  Your comments do not, for the reasons Rufus gave.  Slowman, you really ought to consider making a whole lot fewer assertions of what the facts supposedly are, and start making a whole more posts asking others if they think the facts might be what you think they might be.

"Give it up, you lost."

You DO realize that isn't Gates speaking right?

You can't say "Robert Gates says otherwise" if what you really mean is "some nameless 'diplomatic source' from who knows what country thinks otherwise... "

Do you even understand the difference?  As I already said, the Israelis have been trying to claim that this is somehow about integrating Israeli weapons, or repairing their aircraft in wartime, when what this is really about is trying to stay in the upgrade business.

As I said before.  I am really unsure how much of the problems you have making sense of what is going on are due to reading comprehension problems, but in light of your consistent tendency to misquote sources to support some goofball theory of yours I am inclined to believe that you are simply a liar and aren't accustomed to people who can easily see through it.

That goes for a few people here, but slowman is near the top of the list to be sure...

It really is a bit of a mystery to me where these kids come from sometimes.  They show up with elaborate theories of how air combat, the aviation industry, and technology in general work.  Then they seek to lecture everyone based on this largely made up and misconstrued imaginary world.

Is there some message board somewhere where these guys get together and discuss these things by posting misquoted articles and fanboy theories back and forth to each other?

They all seem so incredibly certain they are right when they first show up.

> F-136 is that YF-120 kernel

but F136 is not F120; just like F119 derived F135 it increased bypass ratio to increase thrust at the expense of supercruise. Nor is F136 a finished engine; it is basically a cancelled engine in the middle of project. There will be no fighter that will be using F136.

I am aware that you don't know what a kernel or a core is by that statement. The F-136 is scheduled for the British come hell or high goblins. RR wants desperately to make the engine in the UK as does the RR plant in Indianapolis, Indiana where we need the jobs. You don't know what you discuss as usual.

 @ Rufus

> If you say so.

Yes it is. That article basically quotes a few pages from an incomplete external technical feasibility study conducted by an external institute(Some university in this case) as required by law to offer a countering view to decision makers. It will not affect the Korean DoD's plan, which is determined to push through their plan and is already issuing some contracts with long lead time, namely radar and sensors.

I'll let Rufus take your other crap, but here is how bypass works:

> Rufus' comments fit perfectly with that quote.

Look, press aren't invited into actual discussion between Gates and his Israeli counterparts, there is no transcript of the meeting nor any press conference. What we know is that it is Gates' agenda to pressure Israel to accept F-35 as is, no mod permitted.

@ Rufus

> You DO realize that isn't Gates speaking right?

Well, the diplomatic source is talking about Gates' agenda of his Israel visit and why he is in Israel.

> diplomatic source' from who knows what country thinks otherwise... "

It is the diplomats like him/her who negotiate agendas and topics of discussion before the high-ranking official(President, Secretary of State, or Defense Secretary)'s visit actually takes place. Most of agreements are made beforehand. It is Gates' agenda that Israel take F-35 as is and drop the demand to integrate its weapons and systems.

> They all seem so incredibly certain they are right

I am not certain I am right. I AM RIGHT.

You clearly don't understand what's at stake here. Supercruising requires a turbojet or a low bypass turbofan engine to keep the exhaust velocity high. High bypass turbofans sacrifices exhaust  velocity for greater thrust and cannot supercruise. F120 in question actually shut off bypass and operated like a turbojet in supercruise mode, and F119 has a very low bypass ratio for the same reason.

F135 and F136 increase this bypass ratio to increase thrust rating at the expense of exhaust velocity. Thus they cannot supercruise and cannot be used in KFX, which requires supercruise in A2A missions. Furthermore, there is no indication that F135 is available for applications outside of F-35 program.

F414 has a relatively low bypass ratio and is considered fit for supercrusing, and it fact it does supercruise in Gripen NG. This is why Korean DoD is evaluating between F414 EDE+ and EJ2X0 and the airframes that carry them, Super Hornet and Typhoon, as bases for KFX.

Irrelevant.

You do know that you do not know what the hell you are talking about; that you are desperately trying to cover this up? The bypass ratio around the kernel and its operating core temperature is what matters in supercruise. The super-cruise engines were able to do a few flow tricks in the first stage high pressure compressor as well as operate at very high variable temperatures in the kernel of both types, something of which you seem unaware or you wouldn't have gotten that detail about how they work WRONG.

F135 and F136 being high bypass engines doesn't help. This is also the reason why F100/F110 aren't being considered for KFX either even though both are license produced in Korea(as opposed to imported F404/F414) and have greater peak thrust rating.

Supercruise is required in KFX and there are only two engines available in open market capable of supercruising, F414 family and EJ200.

The bypass duct is the SHELL that goes around the kernel, you ignorant poster. Do you get it NOW?

Bypassed air is slower than jet exhaust. Higher bypass = slower exhaust = slow crusing speed. Get it now?
Low or no bypass = faster exhaust = fast cruising speed.

F136 is canceled and isn't going to see production. F135 itself is never designed for supercruise. Neither is what Koreans are looking for even if both were available.

F119 would be another matter, but that one's not for sale.

Otherwise known as the mixing chamber or exhaust nozzle or combustion pot  My but you are totally ignorant.
