Subject: Mighty Mouse FFAR - In your opinion...
DropBear    3/30/2006 11:54:55 PM
...Do you think this was a good/effective system or a stop-gap between better A2A missile platforms of the time. In otherwords, was there much point adopting these rockets for use in the SabreDog, Scorpion and Delta Dagger in light of other options such as Genie, Falcon and Sidewinder derivatives? Thoughts...

I am aware combinations of rockets/missiles were carried on said types, just wondering if you think the rocket component was worthwhile?

"I am aware combinations of rockets/missiles were carried on said types, just wondering if you think the rocket component was worthwhile? " rockets were still in vogue as they were regarded as viable against massed targets/massed formations. I'd say that there was probably still some reticence as to the suitability of missiles as their track record hadn't exactly been earth shattering. still useful as a companion weapon.

"I agree. Am a big fan of Mighty Mouse. Just wondering what the natives think. " I used to have an excellent A3 sized poster of a Skyraider rippling off mice - circa 1966... damn impressive.

don't see why not. the typhoons used icevream rockets on shipping in WW2 and they made a mess of things with them. you could certainly use them against a brown water riverine force, riverine logistics etc... I'm not so sure you'd want to bump heads against a decently armed skimmer though.

We may as well PM future conversations that don't involve the words stealth, fifth gen, AESA, Spectre, JSF etc etc etc.
