Subject: EW aircraft and digital adaptive beamforming
perfectgeneral    1/10/2006 3:18:49 AM
Digital adaptive beamforming (of an array radar) is supposed to make jamming impossible, why do people suggest that Europe develop a dedicated EW aircraft (like Prowler?) to counter the edge that stealth planes have over euro designs? While we are looking at adaptive beamforming, how does it prevent jamming exactly? Are Roke Manor (UK source site) claiming too much of the technology?

And here I thought of making an "Do AWACS have a role with the proliferation of stealth fighters?" Now, how could you achieve battlespace awareness if everybody is stealthy? How about low RCS UAVs blinking in and out with their radars, achieving some degree of radar coverage? ESM and IR scanners also on stealthy UAVs offloading via datalink? OK. I know I am rambling... :)
